Apex Legends Region Locking Incorrect Region

I've been having this issue on and off for years now, but now it affects me almost every single time I try and play Apex.

No matter which server I pick in the pre-menu (Sydney, Singapore, Tokyo) when I actually get into a game I'm connected to a server with an IP some where in europe, typically Frankfurt. So instead of having 2-100ms ping I'm forced to play on 300ms ping, while also being in the incorrect local timezone so now I have horrible queues.

It's like EA has decided my account is a European account, so when every they turn on/off region locking I end up having to play in Europe which is literally the furthest possible servers away from me.

Using ExitLag to force myself into my own region used to fix the issue, but now even that doesn't work, instead Exit lag reports I am being routed through to EU from the JP endpoint am connected through...

Go to sleep and hope tomorrow will be better

If you're really lucky and a blue moon is out, switching between servers might help, i.e. Tokyo1 -> Tokyo2

  • Since in the past when I've asked people about if they've experienced this issue their first response is that I'm `a lier` or `you just have high ping, you're not going across the globe`, where is a list of ranked servers I played on yesterday in order:

      - 151.106.15.97 France/Grand-Est
      - 35.171.137.202 US/Virginia
      - 174.127.77.21 JP/Tokyo
      - 173.244.199.136 Germany/Rheinland-Pfalz
      - 174.127.114.96 US/Dallas
      - 174.127.77.21 JP/Tokyo

Can you tell I was connected to Tokyo1 🙃...

FYI these servers the the IPs Apex legends was sending and receiving the most bandwidth from while I was in a game, I'm ignoring other IPs I connected to between matches because it could make sense for the match making server itself to be in an irrelevant region to where the actual game servers will be instantiated.

Also I was playing at 4pm on a Saturday AEST, and even when I was in non APAC servers the names of all of the players I noticed in the match were similar to names you'd normally see in JP servers. Rather than being all EU/US style names.
