This has been happening a decent amount since I started playing Apex again for Season 2. The sound will randomly cut out often causing me and my squad to get killed by a team we couldn't hear. I've been in a fight, hid in a corner to heal and seen a Wratih and a REX'd up Octane sprinting passed 20 feet infront of me and heard nothing. I've taken damage without hearing anything, only to realise there's a guy with a Longbow up on Skull Town skeleton ~200m away shooting at me. An enemy Pathfinder on the otherside of a wall using his grapple to get away from me made no sound. Grenades landing in the building my squad is in with no icons, no sound and no lines from the characters playing, then our entire squad died from 2 Arc Stars and a grenade going off we had no idea were thrown in. People climbing onto the roof of a building (including Pathfinder Grappler/Zipline) we are in but not knowing because we can't hear anything until they start shooting at us. It's putting off ranked due to the amount of times we were in a winning position and then dying to this *. Oh and Bloodhounds scan doesn't always work, chased a guy down today and he ran into a small two room building. I scanned to see exactly where he was and 'No hostiles detected' came up even though I heard him healing up.

  • @Nexdoreumwhen they fixed the audio a while ago it was great.. then season 2 hit and the audio seems to cut certain things randomly.. I just had two games back to back where a Pathfinder and his entire team snuck up on all of my team and smoked us.. no audio and they were pretty close to us.. the audio issues are pissing me off so bad it's horrendous

  • have you tried to default the audio settings and redo the options you had enabled?

We also have this workaround right now while directional audio is being investigated. We have it tracked on the Trello board.

Via Microsoft on Window update - KB4515384 (OS Build 18362.356)

"Microsoft has received reports that audio in certain games is quieter or different than expected after installing this update. At the request of some of our audio partners, we implemented a compatibility change that enabled certain games to query support and render multi-channel audio. Due to customer feedback, we are reverting this change as some games and some devices are not rendering multi-channel audio as expected. This may result in games sounding different than customers are used to and may have missing channels."

    Workaround
To mitigate the issue, open settings in the impacted game and disable multi-channel audio, if this option is available. You can also search in the Windows Control Panel for third-party audio device control panels and disable Multi-channel audio or Virtual Surround Sound, if these options are available.

We are working on a resolution and estimate a solution will be available in late September.
