I don't have the best graphics card, so I run everything on the lower settings for less strain on my computer. But the game won't let me turn down the model detail. No matter how many times I set it to low and click apply, it says "High" when I check again.

you can adjust your videoconfig.txt...
"setting.r_lod_switch_scale" "0.800000"
1.0 is high
0.8 is middle
0.6 is low

I have seen people fix the issue with settings not being saved by resetting all settings to default and then exiting out of the game. Relaunch it and then you should be able to change your settings and they will be saved.
