Code Net or Connection Timed out when trying to play

I play Apex exclusively with my roommate on the same connection, and after the latest patch we have been unable to play together, specifically to play Duos or Ranked Trios.

We can connect together to TDM or Gun Run without issues, but whenever we connect to a battle royale match, one of us ends up receiving the code: net error with a message telling us the connection has timed out. This isn't during specific hours of the day, but it is a constant thing and it is making the game completely unplayable since one of us is unable to connect.

To clarify, ONE of us connects and the other just sits in the loading screen until they inevitably receive a code: net error.

We don't know what to do, as repairing the game or reinstalling it, alongside resetting routers and opening ports has done nothing to fix this. We have also tried to switch servers and play on separate servers.

We are playing on the EA app on PC.

Does anyone have a fix?
