I would not recommend doing that crazy stuff just to play 1 game if all your other games are working fine.. But in my case all my games were not working properly.. I fixed apex and now the other games work too.. I got the crash to desktop in the first version of apex and repaired it by removing all my visual C++ libraries and installing those required for origin/apex from microsoft website.. These include 2010, 2012, 2013 2017 both in 32 and 64 bit.. Again i do not recommend you do this unless you are sure it's not going to effect your system and dont do it just for 1 game if others work perferctly

You can check if a program uses a distro by running it then trying to uninstall the distro and it will prompt you to close the program you are using.
You could open all the programs that you use everyday and uninstall all distro's that have no prompt.
In the case of games you can just repair the game or verify integrity (Steam) and the required files will be installed.
This should be the safest way to clean up any old Distro's
