:D well I guess you can google or if possible just pingtest your connection via wifi and then via plugging network cable straight into PC/console.
Short answer is - yes. And I would bet my money your issues are coming at least 50%+ from this factor alone :)
Only one worse case I have heard over the years = people playing FPS competitive games via hotspot on mobile phone :D
