Engine Error: Unknown file version (audio\ship\general.mbnk) + lag/stuttering

You may be seeing some file corruption. Try the relevant step below.

Origin: right click the game and then Repair

EA app: click Manage button and then Repair

Steam: verify files - https://help.steampowered.com/en/faqs/view/0C48-FCBD-DA71-93EB
