Extremely bad lag specifically in Apex on PC

I used to play Apex occasionally with friends on PS4, but when crossplay came out I decided to try it on PC. The game runs completely fine in firing range and the main menu, up until I queue for a match and get past character select. I start getting extremely bad lag with all sorts of red symbols flashing in the top right, to the point where every other player teleports every two seconds instead of moving normally and I can barely pick things up, let alone shoot. I can move fine for the most part, though I will teleport occasionally, and my characters arms and gun take a while to catch up to what I'm doing. For whatever reason, this will sometimes go away if I manage to survive for around 10 minutes and the game will be fine for any number of matches after that. I've tried all of the fixes in the basic connection troubleshooting, and several other things. My computer and internet are fine with every other game, and Apex on PS4 (on the same connection) has no problems like this at all. This is very frustrating as the only way I can test if the problem is happening is to queue for a game and ensure a loss for the unlucky people who get matched with me. I know I could just play on PS4, but this problem is just such nonsense to me that I can't help but try to find a fix for it. Thank you for your time.

    Hi @clownpiece69

Which datacenter are you normally connecting to? Have you had a chance to try connecting to any others to test and see if the same issues are still happening?

    /Kent

  • Thank you for the reply Kent. I have tried several different datacenters, usually it defaults to Virginia or Virginia 2. When choosing a datacenter it always shows my ping as fine and no packet loss, which is strange considering what happens when I get into a game.

That is definitely weird. It's also strange that no issues like this are happening when you play on PS4 as well.

Have you tried using a different DNS in Windows to see if that makes any difference at all? Sometimes that can help with cases like this. You can update the DNS in your Windows TCP/IP settings. For more details on how to change those check out the Microsoft Support website. If you choose the Manual option you can enter a DNS of your own choosing.

I usually go with the public Google DNS (primary: 8.8.8.8; secondary: 8.8.4.4), but if there's a different DNS you would prefer using that's OK as well. Let me know how that goes when you've had the chance to try it out.

    Thanks again!

  • @EA_Kent Tried using a couple different DNS options, no luck unfortunately. I found this thread with a similar-sounding issue, but had no luck with their solution either unfortunately: https://answers.ea.com/t5/Technical-Issues/Apex-Input-latency-for-the-first-10min-of-the-game-Every-time-I/td-p/8671435
I've also been doing more tests to see how consistent the issues are. My earlier statement about the lag clearing up after around 10 minutes is inaccurate, I haven't been able to reproduce that in a while. It will go away sometimes for a minute or two, sometimes for the rest of that individual game, sometimes for multiple games, but it's very inconsistent and there doesn't appear to be a pattern.
Apologies to the people I've matched with while trying to fix this, if there was another way to test it I'd do it.

I appreciate you following up. I know what you mean. I'm sorry we don't have an easier way of testing this.

Is it possible this could actually be software-related? Could there be something else running on your PC that might be causing the lag you've been seeing? If that's the case, starting up your PC in a Clean Boot may help get around it. For more information on how to set one up check out the EA Help website

Once your PC starts back up try launching Apex Legends again and see how you get on. Let me know how it goes for you once you've had the chance to try it out.
