Hearing Device Disconnect Audio When Apex is Launched - New PC

Hello,

I'm having a minor issue related to, I think, my USB connected devices on a brand new PC.  My issue is that when I launch apex legends on steam and get to the connect screen, I start hearing regular 'device disconnect' sounds, the same windows sounds you hear if you were to unplug a thumb drive.  I have 3 devices connected to my PC via USB externally:  Keyboard, Mouse and Headphones.  None of these devices necessarily stop working each time I hear the sound, but when I'm an actual match I have had my mouse stop working for a few seconds and then come back.  I've tried moving each device to a new USB port on my PC with no results.  Also I want to reiterate that I only have this issue when running apex legends.  As soon as I close the game, it stops.  I've tried disabling the lighting feature on my mouse both in-game and in the mouse software.  Mouse is a steelseries rival 600, my headphones are steelseries arctis 7, and my keyboard is a corsair k70.

PC Specs:

AMD 5900x

32GB Corsair Dom RAM

Geforce RTX 3080 Founders

Any help in how I could troubleshoot this issue would be greatly appreciated.  The sound is annoying, but I'm more concerned about the points where my mouse will lose full connectivity.  I'm assuming they're related.

  • Figured I'd come back and post my finding just in case someone else has a similar issue.  First, I discovered that I experienced the issue with other steam games once I had installed some more and tried them out.  That told me it was something happening when launching a game on Steam.  I installed a few non-steam games to be sure and did not experience the issue.

The obvious fix was to disable Steam's in-game overlay and it worked.  Haven't had any issues since disabling it.

  • I should also add that on top of moving connected devices to new ports, I also tried a completely different mouse and had the same issue.  After some googling on similar issues, I went into device manager and disable the power-saving mode on all of my USB devices where it was enabled.  Obviously that made no difference, but felt like it was worth a try.  My issue only occurs when I have Apex Legends running(steam).
