I have this exact problem on my Steam version I've changed the password like 6 times and still tells me to change it. stuck for a month now. I had to download the Origin version and i can play, my content and everything is gone i have to start over which sucks *. I've paid money for this game and Origin could not help in the least bit.
So I had this issue and got it resolved. Turns out I had another origin account linked to my steam than my main origin account to play apex and I had a password issue with that account I forgot I linked to steam. So make sure you check if you reset the password of the origin account that is actually linked with your steam.
I understand what you mean, but the account that was originally linked, i had deleted so i could relink my main, so now i cant reset the linked account's password because the account doesn't exist.
