Microphone not working in Apex

Microphone not working in Apex.

hey everyone. I’m on Xbox playing Apex Legends. Tried to voice chat with random guy layers on my apex team yesterday, but my microphone wasn’t showing it as active. Shows I have a headset on and plugged in. Thought my headset microphone went bad, so went and brought a new headset. Still had the same issue. Tried to run through the troubleshooting steps with the EA customer rep, but nothing seemed to fix it. I know my microphone is fine, because I’m able to send a voice Message to a friend on Xbox. Anyone else encounter the same issue? How did you resolve it?

    Hi @Sdoc32

    What type of headset or microphone are you using, if you don't mind me asking?

    I had the same issue. It temporarily went away yesterday when I restarted my XBOX. I haven't been able to game chat with anyone since the last Apex update. Some have said it may have to do with your Audio Output selection.

    I also recently changed it because I started streaming and was trying to get my XBOX audio to my computer.

    Until I restarted my XBOX yesterday it always showed my MIC Speaker icon as lit up as if I'm in a party but I'm not. After restarting yesterday that was the first time I heard people talking in a game for weeks. I only played two games, but the first one I heard guys speaking and when someone got knocked I said I got you with my drone (Crypto) and they said "Oh he's got you" I tried to ask them if they could actually hear me but we got eliminated right after.

    Party chat was working fine the past couple weeks, just not game chat, as I said I hadn't heard anyone talk in Apex Legends in the last 2 weeks or so.

    @Luminus404

    Thanks for the details!

    How are you running your Xbox audio through your PC? Are you just running the audio out from the console into a line-in on your PC?

    Hi Kent,

    Thanks for responding. So, when I stream I am using a USB Capture Card by way of an HDMI splitter. This splitter is a hub for 3 HDMIs, one from the XBOX to the splitter (IN), two HDMIs go out, one to my TV and the other to my Computers USB port (with the capture card USB stick plugged in).

    I actually don't know if there's another way to get the audio from my XBOX to go directly into the computer as even with this method I don't hear people talking in game chat on the stream, only in my controller headphones. I'm not monitoring the XBOX audio on my computer other than watching the stream on my Twitch channel on my computer (occasionally I'll turn up the speakers on the computer to confirm audio is working or check the levels on OBS), but I'm playing with an XBOX controller with my headphones plugged into the controller.

    Yesterday, I was able confirm that the in-game chat audio was working again. I played with more random people, and while my speaker icon did not light up or change (it just showed as if I have  a mic plugged in, but am not talking) I chatted with someone the whole game and asked them if they could hear me and they said "Yes".

    The only things I did prior was replug in all the HDMIs, choose Restart My XBOX from the Xbox menu, changed Audio Output settings on the XBOX to Stereo Uncompressed and turned off any special audio settings for headphones by changing Headphones Output to Stereo Uncompressed.

    Hmm, that's definitely odd.

    If you can, would you be able to try disconnecting your Xbox from the capture device and run it directly through your TV to test and see if that makes any difference at all? I'm curious if the same issue still happens if the capture device is removed from the equation.

    @RPZD_Joker

    Do you have any other USB or wireless devices connected to your Xbox? If so, can you try disconnecting the other devices to see if that makes any difference at all?
