    @GlitchPhoenix98  I'm not sure that's applicable here.

However, I am slightly more emboldened by the fact that the Respawn rep on reddit *just* confirmed a number of "Intel-specific" fixes are being looked into, and they're working with Intel on it.

Does that include re-calibrating the game's compiler flag settings to remove the POPCNT incompatibility?

WE SHALL SEE. Stay frosty! :eahigh_file:

    *correction.

The upcoming INTEL/RESPAWN cooperation is regarding "crashing" (and was called "the number one crash issue on PC") and relates to clock speeds/integers.

So it's not related to fixing the trivial POPCNT launch error by refactoring the game's compiler flag assignments, but rather a fix for other CPU types.

With the POPCNT error, of course, affected PCs cannot even launch the game to find out if it crashes. 😛

No doubt on the ladder of post-launch CPU issues, this fix towards more widespread Intel CPUs has higher priority than fixing incompatibility issues for older Intel CPUs.

But perhaps it's the next one down on the list... 👍

  • I don't mean to sound pessimistic but this is almost certainly getting ignored. What we really need is mass reporting this issue, each and everyone of us. That's the only way to draw attention and to prove just how many people can't play because of this.

One of us should probably write down a clean and simple message for us all to copy and paste into our tickets, that will make it stand out between the others. Then we need to reach out to people affected by this, which is hard. Best case scenario, someone writes an informative article about this that also suggests getting in touch with the support to draw attention. That way, people won't have to search into this obscure forum for this specific thread or find some godforsaken post on Reddit.

Beside, the best content in this thread is now buried. People come here looking for a solution and won't find any, then will just give up because apparently there's nothing to do.

    I asked @EA_Barry :

Better yet, can you pass along a definitive statement from Respawn or the lead Producer on EA's side saying:

"It is absolutely impossible to patch POPCNT retro-compatibility into Apex Legends to allow the affected CPUs to launch the game,

and it will never, ever happen."

    Because right now:

    1) I'm actively playing 2018/2019 AAA game releases - including an EA game - that did tweak their compilers and patched the POPCNT requirement out, allowing affected users to engage in the games, and

    2) I can play all of Apex Legends' current competitor Battle Royale games at full bore 60fps/native 1080p on High settings. All of 'em, 2019 releases included. Even those with arguably more technically demanding complexity and visuals, and higher system requirements than Apex.

    - Yet I cannot even launch Apex (on the aforementioned PC) due to POPCNT's hard presence.

I would need a programmer at Respawn or a tech lead at EA to literally spell out the reasons why it's not feasible.

Not a past tense "because the system requirements" cop out, but rather an actual detailed explanation why a future patch isn't possible.

Then we'd be satisfied - and quite appreciative, actually.

    Thanks,

    -RG
