@notroxamultiple topics have been posted about this issue, there is no official reply, someone from EA mods of the forums promised to forward them to devs but that's about that.
The game is just badly optimized, some say also CPU bound - meaning that it might be a CPU not GPU issue at some cases. But all in all indeed what you say is true and for quite a while - when checking out streams of pro players I still see the same FPS drops, yet I am quite sure pro players run best of the best gear.
Also for me it is the same - the game can't produce stable 144 even on lowest settings in 720p, so no matter if I run that or 2K full on my FPS remain pretty much the same and in the same ballpark you said - 80-90 dropship, 200+ in open areas without clutter, as soon as the animation comes in even if it is just a randomly dropped shield FPS can be whatever random figure between 100 and 200.
One thing that helped me was uncapping FPS, game feels somewhat smoother than before, I mean it is still way off what I could call smooth, stable but let's say it is better than really bad 🙂
Until then feel free to enjoy the same experience as all of us no matter what GPU you have, good marketing for not overpaying now for crazy priced GPUs, just get 1 or even 2 tier lower cards for free and you still get to play Apex like a pro on 3090 or 6900XT :D
