Re: The Tokyo server is getting worse again.

Tokyo resident. Used to get 30ms on JCOM cable modem. Switched to Gamewith Hikari, went down to 5ms at server selection using a Buffalo router. Still saw occasional games jump to over 100ms. Sometimes rebooting the router helped. Sometimes switching to a different Tokyo server helped. Tried a router from IO Data and the occasional 100ms games decreased significantly. Even when they still happen switching servers is usually enough. Last night had a string of games on different Tokyo servers over 100ms and rebooting the IO Data router cleared it.

Not sure what causes the in game latency jumps. Guessing it's multiple things. If it's a DDoS against a particular server then switching servers is what clears it. If it's a memory leak in the router then rebooting it is what clears it.

Hope that helps.

Thank you for your kind reply. I'm Korean. 🙂 I see you get a high ping even if you connect in Japan. Have a nice day.

30ms from outside Japan is impressive. It's not fair that there are no Korea servers. Asia Festival had Korean teams, creators like Chicken-koon and a Korean Loba cosplayer Myboo.

One more troubleshooting step came to mind. Had 30ms from home on ps5. Got a SteamDeck, took it to a Starbucks, and got 20ms at server selection. I don't know if changing providers or trying a coffee shop's wifi is an option for you. Makes me wish there was a bulletin board or database for sharing ping times by location/provider.

Update: I might have cured the occasional in game ping time jumps from under 20ms to over 100ms by disabling IPv6 SPI (stateful packet inspection) and DoS protection on my home router/firewall.

I now have both PS5 and Xbox series X and was seeing the same occasional streaks of games with in game ping time over 100ms on multiple Tokyo servers. Both consoles, same problem. As it turns out the problem might have been with the confusing mix of TCP and UDP ports Apex uses and my router occasionally getting confused.

The router I am using right now is very simple. It doesn't have DMZ settings or port forwarding settings. It has only those two toggles for SPI and DoS. Users of fancier routers might have more options for special handling of Apex traffic.

If you're still having problems it might be worth your while looking into your router settings and the ports Apex uses.
