Unable to connect to Apex Legends (USB tether)

I just recently installed Apex Legends. Excited, I immediately launched the game to play with my non-existent friends. The game launches normally, then I am met with a loading screen with Loba and another legend I forgot as the game tries to connect. At this point my hands are shaking and the sheer excitement in me is about to burst. A few seconds later, the loading icon in the middle of the loading screen changes. Now it says something and ends with "Attempt 6 of 9". Then 7, then 8, you get the point. At first I thought it was my internet, maybe it was slow ? I am after all, using my phone's internet. So I opt for the game to try reconnecting again. It wouldn't. Multiple times. Now at this point, I was cursing my internet for being so insolent, being slower than the snail in the movie "Turbo", if it didn't have a literal turbo engine for its shell. And then finally, after the umpteenth time in an attempt to reconnect, the game loads! I enter the game and it was good enough for me at the time (because even with the slow connection, I got connected). And I noticed the legend in the middle freezing in place while everything else works normally. I thought "Huh, that's peculiar." and then as if a higher power is preventing me from just looking at the menu, I got kicked out to the loading screen to meet with Loba again, with her sneer as if mocking me. I decided to take a break and play another game on Steam. After logging into the platform, there was an update for a game. Naturally, as I have forced Steam to automatically keep my favorite games updated, it will do so even if my internet is slow, right ? So I decided to pause that and let it update another time. In the downloads interface, I saw something strange. The download speed was around 4.8MB/s with a peak speed of 7.8MB/s. So what the fudge was wrong with connecting to Apex Legends ? I fiddled with a couple of fix methods and none of them to avail. I remembered I played at my friend's house with my phone's mobile hotspot instead of USB tethering, and decided to give that a last desperate try. Guess what ? It worked. So I figured out the problem, but I haven't found the solution.

What I've done to fix this (when using USB tether) and none of them worked:

1) Flushed the DNS via cmd. run as admin

2)Changed preferred DNS and alternate DNS servers to 1.1.1.1 and 1.0.0.1, respectively.

3)Edited compatibility for the game launcher to always run as admin and disabled fullscreen optimization.

4)Pressed TAB at the loading screen to change to the nearest Data Center (Singapore) from my location.

With ALL of these methods, at most the game will enter the menu, everything in working order, before Wattson freezes in place again after a few seconds and I know that's when I'm about to get disconnected.

I'm using postpaid, so my data is unlimited. But my hotspot is limited to 10GB per month which I have exhausted unfortunately. The workaround for this, is to use an app called 'ClockworkMod Tether (no root)' so instead of using my limited hotspot, it will use the regular unlimited data for internet connection while connected to my PC via USB. I am aware most mobile phones have their internal tethering in their settings but for some reason, using that method STILL uses my hotspot data instead of the unlimited one.

So is there a way for me to play Apex Legends while still using the USB tether app ? I would REALLY appreciate a fix for this. And hopefully with this topic, more people will be made aware of the issue.

  • there is 1 fix that i found but its limited to 2gb per month, i use this method for apex and it works

it is to use speedify VPN, it won;t fix UDP but it will get apex to connect and have playable ping. if you turn off jumbo MTU in speedify and manually switch the MTU for speedify's internet adapter to 1400 and set speedify' transfer protocol to "TCP multiple" and set your phone's DNS server to usually either 1.1.1.1 or 8.8.8.8

i also set the MTU to 100 for "TAP-Win32 Adapter"

i don;t know what MTU is best but these settings work for me.

also its best to restart your computer and stop windows update and let it sit for a while before playing apex on speedify data just to be sure everything is running efficiently

last but not least beware that speedify will try to change the MTU back to its default huge value, you will have to set it back to 1400 almost every time you restart your computer

so this a fix but i want somthing better and not limited
