What do I honestly need to do to run this game smoothly?

Looking for someone to help me be able to run Apex without any FPS spikes / stuttering / drops / etc. etc.
I recently got a brand new PC and monitor which was quite an upgrade from what I used to have, and was super excited to be able to play with good FPS. Much to my dismay, even on my new computer there is pretty significant and consistent fps drops and times where i'll be in a fight or even just looting where my screen will freeze for 1-2 seconds, or just running around the map does not feel smooth.
I have tried adjusting all of my video settings to the lowest there possibly is and turning everything off to reduce GPU load, but this did not help. I turned off everything & set options to Low - from model detail, effect detail, sun shadow coverage, adjusted texture filtering, texture streaming budget....all of it, but not no avail. I've also added the fps_max and -refresh 144 to command line arguments.
Below is a screenshot of what settings I currently have enabled, which results in decently smooth game play but still very consistent fps spikes and freezes. The specs to my new PC is below which should be way more than capable of handling Apex.
The monitor that I have is 2560x1440p and 144hz.

Is there something I am missing as far as the settings of the game goes, settings I should look for in NVIDIA, anything at all? When in game and monitoring task manager, my CPU load is still minimal and GPU will spike up and down. I don't have this problem with any other game that I play, everything else runs great except for Apex. I just want to be able to play with good and consistent FPS. Is it possible?

Thanks so much for any help and insight you guys are able to provide me. I greatly appreciate it.

  • @TS_ZeroCool I see you have set adaptive Resolution FPS Target to 0 however yo ucouldtry to limit the fps to 140fps @ 144Hz and see if this helps.

Also have you gone to display settings>Advanced display settings>display adapter properties>Monitor on your pc and changed "Screen refesh rate" to 144 Hertz?
  • @EzyHawk Thanks for the reply! I do have my monitor set to 144hz both in NVIDIA display settings and the monitor itself.

  • Setting to 144 fps doesn't help at all, and in fact makes it worse.

Can anyone else advise? I am still constantly getting bad FPS spikes and yet to experience any smooth gameplay with an RTX 2080. This is rather pathetic.
