Why am I lagging so much after Season 1 Update?

Before the Season 1 update, my computer was running Apex Legends at a very smooth 60 fps.

But, after the update, the game was so laggy that I couldn't even enter the menu screen. The FPS was about 5 or 10, and froze every 2 seconds. I do not think this is a network problem, but I wouldn't know because the frame rate is so bad that I can't even join a game. When I go to task manager on my computer, the game is spiking at 90% CPU. How do I fix this lag? I love this game, and would really like to play it.
