I don't have any expectation that 3D spotting will return to Battlefield 2042 but I'd really do some shady things to get it back. We had 3D spotting in BF2142-BF1 and Battlefield was a much better game for it IMO - those that disliked it could go to hard core. Even the Portal 3D spotting isn't what it is supposed to be.
Product: Battlefield 2042

Are you using any software with an overlay? No
Which part of the game is the issue happening in? Multiplayer
Which part of the mode? Conquest

On which server did this happen? All out war
When did this happen? (dd.mm.yy hh:mm) 21/12/22
Summarize your bug KEY ACTION
How often does the bug occur? Every time (100%)
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? Try
What happens when the bug occurs? problem
What should be happening instead? QoL action
the system isn't QoL. time between pings for spotting needs extending (or do something at least) so one can put a marker down quickly as expected because it just spots at the same time but instead of marking, so just make the second quick press of the key action run purely prioritized so it definitely puts a marker down or something, or add an different key for marking, or something.
also we need the green marker properly back thus using the original system again instead.
also, when downed and pinging, it takes 2 key presses to ping the vehicle killer, it is normally 1 like when pinging characters.
apart from that spotting is not always working and cycling specialist gadget gets it working again (mentioned this in another post)

Amazed that I haven’t seen this mentioned yet..
Spotting/ pinging distant targets does not work properly since they introduced changes to spotting.
It worked before the update. Now it doesn’t.
When you ping a distant target to put a red dot over them, you can barely see the red dot and enemy info above them!
The red dot literally flickers briefly and then you an even see it!
This applies to both your own pings and pings performed by your squad mates.
You literally can’t see them!!
You end up having to look away from the pinged enemy to put them in your peripheral view to try and get the red dot to show up.You end up location-pinging the ground next to the enemy just to show squad mates where you’re trying to ping.
Location-pings work fine and you can see them clearly as always.
Pinging nearby enemy seems to work ok.But direct pinging of distant enemy is now broken.
I will say this yet again..
How the hell is it possible that an update like this can be pushed out when it doesn’t work?!
Dice obviously couldn’t even be bothered to test the pings. If they had, they would have seen that they don’t work.
Seriously, it’s like Groundhog Day with every update 🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️

Weird, you've been seeing this for weeks now? I've been having no issues with regular spotting (on PS5).
Haven't noticed this either.
What I have noticed is that this spotting feature is a straight upgrade over the spotter gadget you find in the Nighthawk and some tanks.
You can still use the 'new' spotting feature while in the sitting seat. It has essentially zero cool down versus the 1-2 second cool down you find while using the gadget.

No, they've definitely changed 3D spotting with the latest patch.
Maybe it was intentional because you were able to spot enemies at very long distances with the first patch but now they don't spot.
Though it would make more sense if 3D spot had a range limit
When Dice announced it was coming back I groaned.
I remember when V came out I was against removing it and it was probably one of the reasons V got off to a bad start along with attrition.
However I grew to enjoy playing without it because you could now hide again and not be constantly lit up purely by a player who had no idea you were there.
So when Dice said it was coming back I wasn't looking forward to it but I must admit I'm really glad it's back.
With the detailed environments of modern battlefield games with so many dark areas in every map I feel 3D spotting improves the game and allows players to avoid frustrating deaths to invisible enemies if they are willing to put in a little effort.
Some will argue it's a cheap tactic but many players don't actually spot as it still requires extra effort and adds a delay to when you fire your first bullet.
I also personally feel that as a mid range sniper and tank main I am contributing more to my team by spotting enemies for my teammates.
So now that we've had it back for a few weeks what do you think about the return of 3D spotting?
- ATFGunr3 years agoLegend@Tank2042Man So far it’s been underwhelming, which isn’t entirely a bad thing. I get points for spotting which is good. The spots don’t last long and the teams don’t seem to pay much attention. When I make a spot though and suddenly see them get sniped, I think I’m helping which is also good.
- ATFGunr3 years agoLegend@creepnpeep I’ve noticed the old ping system take two presses of Q now, rather than one. Sometimes it doesn’t spot at all, so I’ll mash the button and suddenly it will mark, then unmarked, then mark again. Too bad a good 50% of the time my squad can’t even see it. I know they can’t as we have comms and they tell me they can’t see it as they run in and get waxed by the player I’d marked. Swing and a miss IMO, which is par for 2042.
