The reason why Battlefield 2042 is struggling to be Battlefield

They aimed the game at 12yr old Fortnite players.

The game shows the complete lack of understanding the developers showed for what Battlefield was all about. They CLEARLY didnt give a flying monkey about the dedicated players who have played the series since the start, and it is those dedicated players THAT MADE THE GAME WHAT IT IS.

AND what's more they lied: quote "...we're going back to Battlfields roots", insinuating they were returmning to true Battlefield gameplay, after the mess that was Battlefield 5.

The evidence of how littel respect the firm has for it's community was shown in game testing when the lead director for BF5 replied to the community that returned (mainly negative) feedback on it. He stated ..."dont bother buying it then", rather than tweaking the game to what it's players would like!

People took him for his word and largely didnt buy it, which resulted in bad sales figures compared to previous titles such as Battlefield 3 and 4 (the pinnacle of Battlefield games, in my opinion).  Ignorance or arrogance? Both I beleive. Apple-like thinking (we know better) doesnt work for games. He was sacked in the end.

Now for BF2042, after launch, Battlefield players left in their droves and the player base crashed through the floor. Battlefield players left because it wasn't Battlefield, Fortnite and CoD players tried it and decided it was rubbish and mostly left too.  It was hard to get  match at certain times of the day.

Let me see... "...returing to Battlefield roots". The things that Batllefield is known for and all previous titles had in some degree or other.

Typical Battlefield
-------------------------------
1) Conquest for core game mode
2) Squad tactical for core gameplay style
3) Squad managment, including orders
4) Commander role (BF4)
5) Squad chat
6) Team Chat
7) Server chat
8) Score sheet for all players
9) Level evolution (levolution as they called it)
10) Classes
11) Huge weapon choice
12) Huge amount of tactical add-ons
13) Good balance between armour and infantry.
14) Great single player game mode

Now, what did BF2042 have when it launched:
-------------------------------
1) Conquest for core game mode YES
2) Squad tactical for core gameplay  NONE - Effectively every man for himsef
3) Squad managment, including orders NONE
4) Commander role (BF4) NONE
5) Squad chat NONE
6) Team Chat NONE
7) Server chat NONE
8) Score sheet for all players NONE
9) Level evolution (levolution as they called it) EFFECTIVELY NONE
10) Classes NONE
11) Huge weapon choice VERY LITTLE
12) Huge amount of tactical add-ons NOT ALOT
13) Good balance between armour and infantry TERRIBLE
14) Great single player game mode NONE,(but some completely stupid idea for why all differnt nations people are fighting as one and yet against each other (No-Pats)/  Cow Pats more lke.

Thank heavens they "returned to Battlefield roots" eh? 13 out 14 classic Battlefield things completely ignored.

But hey, thats what you get when you employ devs who have never played Battlefield before (they removed the previous devs), and have a company that just sees $$$.  Then insert stupid things that will only impress immature/very young players - silly uniforms and even more stupid gun items (trinkets ffs!). And ofc in-game purchases, have to be like sheep and copy CoD!  I mean, we all know soldiers run into battle with brightly coloured uniforms with jangly bits hanging from the side of the gun. Obviously just to make sure the enemy see them, hear them, and to increase the chance of a gun jam. Jeezus the level the game has been sunk too by these people.

Now, the thing that makes ME SMILE THE MOST, is the fact that they had to put everything back in that's in the Typical Battlefield list, just to save the game from panning comletely :-)  Of course they didn't do a very good job of it compared to the previous proper Battlfield titles, but at least they tried. Sorry, just being as patronising as they were to us.

To EA: LEARN. FROM. IT.

Simly put, they took the p*ss out of Battlefield, thought they new better, and killed the franchise, possibly for good. Just about no one (maybe 14yr olds) will buy the next episode in the Battlefield series. We'll let management explain to their shareholders why they've lost so much money.

There is lots LOTS more I could add, and everyone can have a different take, but I beleive most long time Battlefield players will have felt robbed by this title, and dismayed at the constantly downward momentum of the true Battlefield experience.

Just needed to get that off my chest. And yes, if you are still reading, it would be intersting to see the comments/thoughts of other long time Battlefield players...
