Will the mini grenades be the new meta?

Considering the way the APS sentinel will be nerfed to have a cooldown period, I can see the mini grenades becoming the new meta because you can have 3 of them to bait the APS into its cooldown then follow up with the remaining grenades or the Sundance/Zain explosion spam.

I still do not get what they are thinking with the APS nerf. All they had to do was to give EMP grenades to everyone instead of making it useless in sustained explosion spam.

The EMP grenades do not get intercepted and also destroy the APS outright

  • @UP_Hawxxeye I'm actually a little worried about the APS nerf. Some modes are already generally explosive heavy, like Rush XL and Breakthrough, so could get pretty nasty.

This is why I believe that they did not think this change through.

A cooldown is important for the Tank versions of the APS because the Tank APS stops shells too, it is also part of the tank and cannot be individually destroyed.

Meanwhile the infantry APS can be erased by a couple of bullets, an explosive shell or EMP.

So now we have to wait who knows how many months for their "Telemetry(TM)" to catch up to the fact that the infantry APS was the only thing giving some protection for 8 to 64 players throwing all their frag grenades and missiles at your general location while siting next to their ammo boxes

I'm very worried about that too.

AMP is very useful, when the grenade baseball game starts.

ON BF2042 I'm not liking the way conquest works. So I live to play breakthrough and Rush. Sometimes was because of smart use of AMP that the match changes.

And one simple EMP could handle that.

@UP_Hawxxeye Yep I agree, it would have been better if they'd differentiated between vehicle and infantry APS. There are loads of explosives flying at you as infantry and the sentinel was such a helpful gadget to give you a bit of a breather.

I'm worried that defending on Breakthrough and Rush, especially Rush XL, is going to be frustrating as you'll be getting fragged left and right.

@UP_Hawxxeye I am actually looking forward to that nerf. Currently the APS is the most unbalanced gadget in the game.
I even would go so far as to say that the changes should be more thorough.
To get it on par with the turret, infiltration device, and specialist grenade, the placeble number should be reduced to one, and it should self destroy when Irish spawns.
In addition the mechanics for an APS shooting down an explosive and a hand gun shooting down an explosive should be the same.

That doesn't mean that I don't believe Irish is useful, but everything was dumbed down beyond recognition, so Irish has to be next.

@kregora The problem is that the game has a lot of explosives.

We have specialists having explosive gadgets (Zain, Sundance) and they can become even more annoying with a nerfed APS.

@cso7777 But this brings us back to the very beginning with all these issues. The Specialists weren't designed for all out warfare. They were designed for Hazard Zone. Same is true for the medic and ammo crates.
If they worked like BF3 ammo crates that only resupply magazines and shotgun shells quickly, gadgets slowly and grenades very slowly, we wouldn't be in this mess.

Exactly this, and Rush XL can be manic enough at the best of times. 😁

It's sad but true. I don't think we've received any feedback here about why such a change was even necessary to Irish. When they see the percentage of people who die to explosives rise by 50%, maybe then, they'll realize that it was a mistake to make such a change to Irish.

It feels like some kind of "twisted" way to force players into other classes that have as much explosives to equally spam back explosives. Just make the other "specialists" more useful (looking at you Rao) instead of nerfing the ones that are actually good and useful.

Honestly, I think Battlefield needs to have a kind of "Limited Test Environment" to test updates before they ship to the main game, something like this did previously exist if I'm not mistaken.

You're not mistaken, although that was stopped after BF1. I think it'd be helpful for there to be a CTE too.
