BF2042 crashes by loading up, since BF6 Open Beta Client has been installed

On Steam, since yesterdays install and setup of BF6 Open Beta, BF2042 crashes at the title screen before entering main menu whenever the loading crosshair indicator appears at the center of the screen. Crash happens when the title screen stays at a smaller windowed screen as well as whenever it goes to full screen automatically.

I tried to verify gamefiles, repaired EAAntiCheat, deleted BF2042 settings, deleted various caches and temp files, re-downloaded and re-installed BF2042 on Steam, tried to run it through EA App ... but nothing. Same crash happens on title screen shown below.

BF2042 creates a 3 MB encrypted crashdump each time, which I wont share here on public. BF6 Open Beta Client on Steam still runs without any issues.

Clean Win11 Pro 24H2, i9-14900HX, RTX 4090, 2x16GB RAM, latest NVIDIA Drivers v580.88

  • I do not want to go further into details, so after analyzing, switching and testing "various" stuff, only a revert of NVIDIA Drivers helped in my case. By the installers integrated clean install checkbox and the drivers revert from v580.88 to 577.00

  • Can confirm, reverting to 577.00 fixed it for me! Thanks!

And it’s not risky at all long as you do the exe file only…

I understand your concern, that's the main reason I've taken the time to test every single setting (which opened up security big time for BF2042) to narrow it down to this option. I've also removed the different settings from the image for that reason.

Check if you are getting  EXCEPTION_CODE_STR: c0000005 in the dumpfile. This might point to a memory violation caused by presumely the anti-cheat (since I havent had this issue before the latest BF update).

Disabling above option might be your only fix in that case (for now). Just make sure that if you use it, you only apply it to the bf2042.exe.

hi, i had seen this workaround on that particular other thread, but i clearly will not going to mess around with safety settings.

at this moment i am looking and trying to analyze through created dumpfiles..

This sounds a bit like the issues I was having (only it happened a bit later on) and for both 2042 as 6. Try te following:

I've removed multiple other options because they would affect system integrity. Also make sure you only apply this settings for the BF2042.exe and not globally on your PC.
