“Shooting fish in a barrel” objective design
So many objectives start with or end up with absolutely ZER0 cover, with all of the indestructible buildings and high ground being located all around and OUTSIDE of the capture zone.
Basically defenders outside of the capture zone have excellent cover and concealment and/or high ground with hard cover and a clear line of sight into every inch of the capture zone while those that are PTFO inside the capture zone trying to capture are the proverbial fish in a barrel.
We went through this in 2042 and almost every map and every horribly designed Conquest objective was redesigned. Now here we are again.
- objective A on siege of Cairo
- objective A on Liberation Peak
- All of the middle of the street, 4 way intersection objectives on Manhattan Bridge
- Objective C on Manhattan Bridge
- Objective A and E on New Sobek City
- zero overhead cover on many objectives that allow a jet or helo to easily clear the objective
Just a few examples that come to mind. While I don’t want corner camping inside capture zones, defenders should at least have to PTFO and set foot inside an objective in order to clear enemies from a contested objective, rather that defenders being able to snipe into the objective from 50 to 300 yards away in order to uncontest.
How is this encouraging PTFO when defenders can sit outside the objective and snipe anyone that’s trying to capture the objective??
Suggestions:
- add more trenches to every outdoor objective on applicable maps. As we can see in modern warfare in Europe today IRL, trench warfare is alive and well in the modern era. And not those straight line, wide open trenches like we see in Mirak Valley, but deeper, shoulder high, slim/narrow trenches that zig zag(like an actual trench!) and that actually protect players from air threats, enemy tanks and explosions.
- Hescos and improvised infantry fighting positions in built up areas in urban settings
- Bomb craters like we see in BF1!
- Take inspiration from the huge overhauls to objectives on almost all of the maps in 2042 and the outstanding rework of the Panzerstorm map in BF5.
