Aircraft Gameplay Balancing
I’ll begin this with pointing out that I’ve seen a lot of people on YouTube comments and spoken to a lot of people in game about this topic and the general consensus is that the current balance between aircraft power and anti-aircraft capabilities is horribly flawed.
During the first week post launch or so, things weren’t so bad because most people simply hadn’t unlocked everything yet, but now the issues are starting to become far more prevalent.
In order to make the gameplay not just “more realistic,” but striving for enjoyable and balanced gameplay makes the inclusion of aim-guided tank shells on MBTs and laser-guided missiles on IFVs a big issue. These things obviously don’t exist on Abrams tanks and Bradley IFVs in real life, so I’m not sure why the devs even thought to include these, but ever since people unlocked them, they’ve been spamming them non stop towards aircraft, specifically helicopters because they’re slower larger targets than the jets.
This is especially an issue for the Operation Firestorm map, because of how the map’s terrain is laid out and the map’s boundaries are set. It allows one side to perch up Bradleys on the mountain and along with recon laser designators, they can effectively destroy the enemy team’s chances of keeping any helicopter in the air at all.
There are already a plethora of ways to down enemy aircraft, such as the stingers that engineers get as well as RPGs, AA gun emplacements on certain maps, the AA missiles on attack helos and their cannons, as well as jets using their laser guided missiles or their cannons to shoot them down. With the inclusion of aim guided tank shells and laser guided missiles on IFVs, it pushes that beyond reasonable levels and makes it dang near impossible to survive in a helicopter.
I am suggesting/requesting that both aim-guided shells for MBTs and the laser-guided missiles for IFVs be completely removed from the game and that either the reload rate of flares on helicopters be increased, or provide 2-3 flares before needing to reload them by returning to the base’s resupply point.
Based off of all the comments I’ve read and people I’ve talked to, they all agree with this 100% and think it would balance out the air and ground power more.
One last thing I’ll add, is that the map boundaries should be redone for every single map for aircraft. Helicopters and jets simply need more space to fly in and not be so confined to small perimeters. It would make air to air combat in the jets far more enjoyable and provide attack helos more space to maneuver to have slightly increased survivability when they’re being painted and waiting for flares to reload.
