Can Switching between Mouse/KB and gamepad cause a Gameplay Enhancement Ban?

I was recently perma-banned on New Years Eve, appealed and denied, and I am currently on a second appeal trying to have it reversed. I have been researching trying to figure out how I could have been banned and I stumbled across a reddit thread where a bunch of users were banned for using software called reWASD or something similar, mainly their goals are either for enabling auto-aim on mouse/keyboard or handicap controls. I get the intent of trying to ban the former.

I don't use reWASD, but I do use my 8BitDo controller whenever I hop into a fighter jet. I switch back and forth between gamepad and mouse/keyboard depending on whether I am flying a Jet or not. I found flying a jet with gamepad a much better experience (and I was looking into getting a flight stick at some point). The question I have is - is it possible to flag yourself for a ban by switching back and forth? In the game I was banned during, I was switching back and forth quickly due to being spawn camped while trying to get into the jet. I was banned while piloting a helicopter with mouse and keyboard but had been spawn camped right beforehand while trying to fly the jet.

I came here because some on reddit mentioned coming here may help.

  • Hi @b62fee0478ff8720,

I wouldn't imagine that'd be the cause, as both are supported inputs. If other software that isn't allowed is being used, like reWASD etc, then it's more likely, but you've mentioned that you don't use those.

Unfortunately, all anyone can really do here is to guess as to what the cause was, since we don't have access to the full details. Moreover, all you can do is to continue appealing to EA's Terms of Service team, as only they can revoke a ban.

Would it be possible for a bunch of people to mass report someone and have it be classified as Gameplay Enhancement? Or is this type of ban strictly by Javelin?

Would BitDefender Antivirus, Asus Armory Crate, or even running a different game beforehand that uses their own EZ Anti Cheat (I think that is what its called) cause Javelin to flag? I also have this weird KVM: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CVS7JBD1?ref_=ppx_hzsearch_conn_dt_b_fed_asin_title_6 . I am trying to figure out what caused their anti-cheat to flag so I can explain a possibility other than just constantly badgering them saying "Please review again".

  • Why use a KM switcher? Both can be plugged in at the same time.

Not saying that should not be allowed; just wondering why. Makes me wonder what else is at play.

If you were physically switching your inputs between the keyboard&mouse and controller, I could see that being a problem. Unecessary, a potential problem encouraging a false positive, and maybe even suspicious as to why you were doing it and whether you know of some exploit you were taking advantage of or something.

The KVM is used for switching between my personal desktop and my work laptop. Other KVM's I got before would randomly drop their inputs from time to time which was frustrating for work and gaming, so I got a high quality one - however this KVM isn't your standard KVM and can allow linking multiple desktop/laptops together. I never set it up that way - only had one monitor. I do recall the KVM when I first set it up causing problems with playing Mechabellum -whenever I tried pan the camera in Mechabellum it would just lock up. Figured it was trying to read the mouse cursor on the edge of the screen and switch to another computer input so I rewired it so the mouse went into the USB audio port of the device instead. That fixed the camera problem and I hadn't thought about it since.

The mouse and keyboard go through the KVM. The 8bitdo Ultimate is wireless with the wireless dongle plugged directly into the desktop only. No reason to have a gamepad plug into the work laptop.

I also have two setups at two locations, since I travel between the two. The location with the funky KVM is where I got banned. It's weird that I got banned because I'm pretty sure I've clocked in a 100 hours at each location over the past few months. The only other changes I've done in the past few weeks is updating my motherboard's BIOS and started playing Ashes of Creation, which has its own Easy Anti Cheat software - was thinking maybe that caused it. I actually just took a break from playing Ashes and loaded up BF6 when I got banned after playing a couple matches.

  • As for software I have on my computer, in case any of these can cause problems:

+Discord - I was streaming the game for my friends to watch when I got banned.

+Nvidia App, on by default. I think I turned the overlay off since it caused problems.

+HWinfo64 was on monitoring CPU/GPU temperatures

+I have steel series mouse and keyboard. Haven't done anything fancy with their software

+BitDefender Antivirus, it did flag bf6 an hour I think before I got banned for Mic access.

+ASUS armoury crate, and all it's weird functionality . I think this may have some controller input updates bundled in?

+Netgear Defender via Orbi Router, it's constantly scanning and doing it's thing

+I have Xpadder but it was not running and I have not loaded it in months. It's used for adding gamepad controls to games that do not have it/are too old. It would have the exact opposite effect of reWASD - simulate mouse/keyboard on gamepad and turn auto aim off while on gamepad. Does Javelin scan hard drives for inactive software/executables? I can see this causing a problem if it was on, but to be hit while it's not used would be next level weird.

I forget the name, but I have/had some VPN software for remote logging into my condo so I can access my remote game server when at the other location (it hosts dedicated Factorio, Valheim, etc.). But I think that's gone since I reinstalled Windows lately with the new hard drive.

As for Hardware. AMD system with a 5700x3d and a 5070 RTX.

I'll keep listing more stuff as I can think of them. Just trying to be as transparent as possible to figure this out.
