EA Must Fix PS5 vs PC Crossplay: Unfair AdvantagesDestroy the Casual Experience
Crossplay should make it easier to play with friends, but as a PS5 player, too many matches against PC players feel uneven. For casual players who just want to enjoy a few games after work, that frustration takes the fun out of playing.
I can accept losing to someone with better aim, positioning, or teamwork. What frustrates me is feeling that hardware and input differences give opponents an advantage before skill even comes into the picture.
A capable gaming PC can offer higher frame rates, lower system latency, and more graphics customization. Mouse aiming can also offer advantages in quick turns and precise movements compared with a controller's thumbsticks. Not every PC player has a high-end setup, and controllers have strengths, including aim assist where available. But those differences should not be dismissed as automatically balanced.
Sometimes the experience feels almost like competing against someone who has an unfair advantage, even when they are playing legitimately. Owning a PC is not cheating. My issue is with how the game handles competition between platforms and inputs.
Telling console players to "get better" or buy a PC does not solve the problem. We bought the game on PS5 and should have an enjoyable competitive experience on that platform.
Here is what EA and its development teams should address:
1. Console-only crossplay.
Give PlayStation and Xbox players a clear option to play together without PC players. Keep full crossplay available for friends who want to play across all platforms.
2. Matchmaking based on input.
Prioritize controller-versus-controller and mouse-versus-mouse matches. Explain how mixed-input parties are matched. Input matching would not eliminate hardware differences, but it could address part of the problem.
3. Practical options for opting out.
Choosing a more even playing environment should not leave players struggling to find a match. Make these options visible and explain any effects on queue times.
4. Balance based on evidence.
Examine match results across platforms, input methods, and skill levels. Do not assume aim assist offsets every possible advantage or that every player's experience is the same.
5. Better console performance.
Prioritize stable frame rates, responsive controls, and clear visibility during demanding fights.
6. Strong action against actual cheating.
Cheating and hardware differences are separate concerns. Address both without using one to dismiss the other.
I am not asking for easy wins. I want to feel that my decisions and skill give me a reasonable chance, without feeling pressured to buy different hardware just to enjoy the game.
When matches consistently feel uneven, casual players stop playing. That hurts the community and the game's long-term appeal.
Are other console players having the same experience? Would console-only crossplay and input-based matchmaking make the game more enjoyable for you?
