exploiting 'unreachable' areas

Is exploiting unreachable areas a violation of the rules?

If so, should we report players for doing this? Maybe not to get them banned but to indicate how big the problem is.

I get that and I agree that people pushing the limits in games is sometimes a good thing - I helped have some rooftop exploits fixed in one of the past games by playing around (I didn't intentionally kill anyone while doing so though), and a wall breach in another.

If you want to add context or additional information when reporting people using exploits to gain an advantage, the EA Help option is probably best, as there's a text box for comments. The report form is in the "EA Help" section of the guide below, ifit helps.

I also understand that you don't want to get people banned, but I would still report them personally. If someone is gaining an unfair advantage by using an exploit and impacting the enjoyment of others (like using wall breaches or out of bounds exploits), then I think there should be repercussions. However, any action taken against someone after a report is made up to the ToS team to decide.

If there using the drone on breakthrough etc, then yeah maybe but some places can be gotten to just by climbing. IMO the maps are kinda crap and should have stairs or other ways to get up to every part of the walkable map, the buildings are all half cooked  with stairs that go no where and doors that dont open, its disappointing for a BF Game

Yes, please do report them. It's ruining the game. On some maps in some modes it's pointless playing because it ruins the balance badly.

Unfortunately there are also lots of players using ladders - not the drone glitch - to get to rooftops that are clearly not intended to be in play (giving them clear view of enemy spawn and points in breakthrough for example). They think it's fine because they used the legit ladder gadget. I point out you could just jump up to the roofs in Cairo and that got stopped and warnings given out.

I warn them and if they don't stop I report them anyway.

Yeah, yeah, I here some of you shouting "dad gamer" and "cry more". My answer: "grow up". Stop spoiling others' fun with pathetic selfish trolling/griefing.

  • Hi SlapZtickz,

Technically, yes. At least I believe so based on the "Do not engage or assist in cheating, collusion, unfair play, or using exploits" stipulation in the EULA (6. Rules of Conduct, Play Fair, Point 1: User Agreement - Official EA Site).

It's also mentioned in the Positive Play Charter, which states, "Don’t use or distribute unauthorized hardware, accessories or software programs and tools such as aimbots or triggerbots, or otherwise use exploits, cheats, undocumented features, design errors, or bugs." (Play Fair, Cheating, Point 1: Positive Play Charter - Electronic Arts Official Site).

Thanks for your (and others) reply,

The problem is that I do not really want to ban players, since players pushing the limits of a game is actually a good thing. What is needed however is a judgement what is going too far. Some exploits are more problematic than others and some can even become a feature when countered by the players themselves. To get a good perspective on this I suspect the developers need information. However when reporting players there is no option to leave a comment or indicate what type of exploit is used, which can help evaluate it. Maybe it is a good suggestion to enable players to leave a comment or make it a specific report: map glitch/exploit

I think that initially we should regard people using exploits/pushing the limits as a form of evolution of the game. We should never forget that grenade jumping (team fortress) and strafe jumping (quake) were glitches that turned into features. I actually feel that removing access to some of the areas on the big middle mountain of liberation peak did not make for better gameplay. In the beta it was really funny to go up there and knife the snipers. You could also easily counter snipe them. In other words: it was a glitch you could adapt to. Sometimes it will be better to enhance the situation rather than just outright remove every glitch in the map (by adding another stairwell or w/e). Turning a glitch into a feature prevents the game from getting boring. I am referring to certain climbing spots, obviously I am not talking about exploiting drones to fly everywhere. I think the ladder is actually a fun innovation and clearly there is demand to access rooftops (without helicopters), so maybe sometimes its better to just improve the climbing or ladder points to make drone glitching obsolete rather than to ban people or to make the maps bland by just removing every glitch.

    just my 2 cents obviously
