Hardcore mode for veterans and those who prefer simulation

Hi DICE / EA team,

I’ve been a Battlefield player since Bad Company 2 and I deeply value the tactical, immersive experience the franchise has always offered. Hardcore mode—with reduced HUD, one-shot kills, friendly fire, no minimap—was an iconic part of Battlefield’s identity.

It’s disappointing that in Battlefield 6 Hardcore is only available through Portal, requiring custom servers and manual setup. Many long-time fans (including myself) just want to queue into a standard Hardcore playlist via matchmaking, like in BF3 and BF4.

A simple option at the start of matchmaking—"Standard" vs "Hardcore"—would let new players join the normal mode, while veterans could select what they know and love. This choice doesn’t harm anyone and addresses both audiences fairly.

Portal cannot replace matchmaking: lack XP progression, and aren’t easily discoverable. Access to Hardcore via matchmaking would revitalize competitive play and honor Battlefield’s legacy.

Please consider adding an official Hardcore playlist to standard matchmaking. Many fans have voiced similar concerns and would greatly appreciate such a feature.

Thank you for listening.

I think project reality is still active, but from what I read, some of the mod devs ended up moving over to Offworld Industries to develop Squad, so it is it's "spiritual successor". I agree there are some features I wish were a bit different with Squad, but after BF4, I moved over to Squad because I enjoy more of the semi milsim/realism (BF3, BF4, Squad, which I fell I less milsim than say Arma) over the more arcade shooter like COD which I felt BF started to become. But the gameplay feature I enjoy the most is the faster kills. I feel like it slows the game play down, in a good way, and makes you have to think more tacticaly. Same with the lack of pinging enemies or a mini map, unless you had equipment to do so. And the great thing about BF vs Squad, is the maps aren't so large and there are enough vehicles that it doesn't become a "running" simulator, like those others can sometimes feel like.

BF6 is the perfect opportunity to start getting the franchise back on track. But without official hardcore servers, they may miss out on an entire segment of players!

I agree 100% that a few extra clicks should not be a problem. My only thought is they will have plenty of people who are either oblivious to the fact that this can occur or who feel like it's "too much work" (for lack of a better description) who will stop supporting the game. And as more and more those people stop supporting the game, the studio may see that as, "our fan base wants XYZ more than hardcore because the player base isn't there..." And starts drifting from the core values that makes BF what it is and starts changing it into a clone of other games, like COD.

This is just my thought on the matter, and I would very much like this franchise to not only survive but thrive because I have hours and hours of fond memories from playing this franchise over the past 20 years and would love hours and hours more, over the next 20 years!

  • 100% would be awesome.

No hud, shorter TTK, slightly slower movement, no scope glint.

As standard gamemode, not through portal.

  • Problem with Hardcore is they can't sell all the skins they would like. It would be hard to tell who was on which side. Gone are the days when you could look at the uniform and know which side someone is on. Love hardcore, but the current focus on games selling skins is killing it.

  • I have been hoping for an updated BF4 and I think this is it! Please include hardcore mode.

Bad Company 2, Bad Company 2: Vietnam, and Battlefield 3. This was the defining era of what made Battlefield's hardcore mode gameplay so distinct, rewarding the player with the experience they've played. (BC2/Vietnam)-From the amazing class roles, like Recon (GOL-M95); calling mortar strikes, leading and judging each shot's drop from across the map accurately into the perfect killshot. The Medics healed their teammates, while the Engineers healed their teammates' vehicles and assisted them with enemy vehicles. Assaulters used under-barrel attachments, such as the M320 with 40mm HE/Smoke, to blast enemies from their cover or level entire houses. Provided a smoke screen to hide the squad mates' maneuvers or blind the opponent's aiming. Then you add the feature of taking someone's dog tags by a knife kill, you become obsessed with getting payback every time you're knifed. Between 1-4 shots to take someone out and a minimum HUD all created what was the perfect game. The list goes on and on, about the way Battlefield Hardcore mode is a necessity for a large number of veterans of Battlefield games from our past.

That's exactly what got me hooked, hardcore realistic warfare. Where team work and skills meets gameplay,

Hear, hear. Fully agree. Hardcore mode as optional on AOW — not just Portal.

Rusty Rat Well you can't sell a skin to someone who doesn't even buy the game. Many of us HC players won't buy if there's no HC mode.
