I find myself quitting matches mid-way more and more

As the tile says, I find myself quitting mid-match more and more often, sometimes to switch to another lobby, sometimes to shut down the game entirely.

And I want to start by saying I think it’s a bad thing. BF is about team play, and it’s a bad thing to abandon your team who are still trying, especially when they are losing. I also think it’s disrespectful to the opponents, who deserve more than people just leaving.

I also want to add I am a bad player. My overall kdr right now stands at 0.8. Since the servers in my region closed down, I have to play with a lag of >60ms every match. Let’s just say I am used to losing and have a good tolerance for it. In fact, that’s why I play BF: even if I lose my duels, I can still be useful by playing the obj.

But still, nowadays, I will quit:

I will quit when you throw me halfway into a complete rout:

Match is about to start, you get your briefing, and the entire map is painted red. I understand why it happens, especially why I so often get thrown into the losing side: one player had enough and left, so that’s one spot for me. Heck, see my point below for an example of this.

But why would I want to spend any time, even a minute, playing that? A great player may enjoy the challenge, but I’m not that. The enemy owns the land, half their team is already camping in superior positions, their snipers are covering the approaches and their tanks are shelling anyone daring to put their nose out. With every gun being a laser beam and death occurring either instantly or in milliseconds, what exactly makes you think I want to engage in such an experience?

Sort out your matchmaking, and then start thinking about sorting out balancing the teams. Until then, I’m not staying in those matches.

I will quit when my team is not trying:

I WILL stay until the end in a losing match when people around me are trying to turn things around, I am all about team play. But I will not stay when obj after obj gets captured, and our snipers are still gallivanting in the hills and our tanks stay in HQ.

You may say that’s not on the game but on the community of players, but that’s not entirely true: there are things that could be done to promote team play. Heck, as a very low hanging fruit, you could start by not giving any score or kills to anything done from HQ. You could reward offensive and defensive kills and deemphasize other kills, and even promote O/D kills in the scoreboard rather than the overall kdr. You could put obj captures first instead of last in the list. As of today, people with high kdr will still inevitably top the scoreboard, so it’s on you to promote a different style of play.

But until then, if no one is trying, I don’t see why I should.

I will quit when my map becomes sniper alley:

It’s never fun to be sniped. One-shot kills from someone you couldn’t possibly see and could not engage in any meaningful way even if you could are not a great recipe for fun. But sniping is very much a part of the game, and as I said before, I have a hight tolerance for losing.

But you’ve also decided to make sniping so much easier than in any previous title, so much so that everyone and their grandmother now fancies themselves a mountain goat. And I know this because I have tried it, and man my kdr is way nicer when I’m a sniper. When someone like me can get an easy 15+ kills with a sniper rifle, you know it’s really easy.

It’s bad enough when a third of your team is up in the hills and does not play the obj. But I already said it, I will not stay if no one else tries. But when it’s the enemy, especially when the enemy is winning and they can occupy any position they want uncontested and take their time, then it becomes beyond obnoxious. Once I get sniped 3-4 consecutive times from 3-4 different angles, all the while trying to rush as fast as I can between cover and hugging the sod in between, that’s when I’ve had enough and I quit the match.

I would probably have much better tolerance for this if I thought those who shot me had serious skill, but as I know that’s not really needed… I don’t really expect you to do anything about this though, after all, making sniping more skill-based would probably just push away a bit more of the remaining player base.

I will quit when netcode screws me over:

No, I’m not talking about something as trivial as hitreg - for one thing, I think it’s really difficult to separate missed hits due to netcode from those due to bloom.

No I’m talking about the really bad stuff, where I’m shown something on screen that bears no resemblance to the result. People facing away but somehow shooting at me, someone finishing me with a sidearm according to the log but not showing even changing weapon on screen, and of course all those times where I’m seemingly one-shot by a gun when the log shows 5-6 hits…

People have been telling me it’s because of my midrange 60ms lag, that things would be better at either a lower or higher ping. No idea if that’s true, but what I have noticed is that it seems to be lobby dependent: I will go in a match where this happens again and again, then things are normal the next.

I’ve learned my lesson, once it’s obvious the issues are prevalent, I go elsewhere.

Anyways, all of this to say I’m quitting matches more and more, frustration is growing, and I’m getting closer to the day I will close down the game for good. I'm among those people who thought BF6 was a phenomenal basis for a great game when it came out, but as time has past, the holes have started showing. I haven't seen anything in the roadmap showing any of this will be solved, so my hopes aren't really high.

Certainly a huge increase in people quitting at the end (losing side).

Good to know. I honestly don't know if it's the lag, or if it's things people don't notice (I personally started paying a lot more attention after one egregious case, maybe there were more before?), or anything else.

"Netcode" is a bit meaningless as terms go, after all the vast majority, including myself, have no idea how netcode works in general, much less this specific implementation. All I can say is that is feels like complete crap at times, and ok at others.

I get about 59ms to north America west and it's fine.

    30ms to east.

I cant tell you which feels better because both have their own issues
