Giving console players the option to opt out of cross-platform play, especially with PC players, is not a bad thing.
PCs are susceptible to hackers, and in some fringe cases, it could be argued that PC players have an advantage over console players due to the character control method.
That said, some PC players game with a controller, or a combination of keyboard + mouse and controller.
As I understand it, the option console players will have is prioritisation of console-only players. However, PC players will remain in the matchmaking pool to fill a match if need be.
On balance - I don't think it's unfair. Though I would welcome such an option for PC players.

I struggle to think what EA/DICE's rationale is regarding this whole crossplay shenanigan...!
Why can't PC play against PC only, and Consoles against Consoles only?... Why the forced march together...? I'm dumbfounded as to what the driver for this is.It is an overall very positive thing that you are able to play with friends even though they are on a different platform than yourself. It is more important to make the game accessible and to have a healthy player base that are able to play the game together.
Splitting the player base into 4 different matchmaking queues is not ideal.- Cross-play on
- Cross-play off PS5
- Cross-play off Xbox
- Cross-play off PC
This split wont be a problem in the beginning, as BF6 will likely have a lot of players the first months after release. However it will affect the health of the game in the long run. I tried turning off cross-play in BF2042, and I was not able to find a match.
If they are not going to allow PC players to turn off cross-play I kind of wish they remove the option to turn off cross-play all together, and rather focus on balancing the inputs as good as they possibly can. It might never be perfect, but it can be good enough that most players will feel that it is fair.
The aim-assist system in BF6 is actually pretty well balanced I think. The huge problem is the reduced recoil for controller players. The recoil affect how the weapons feel, how you build them, and which weapons are viable to you, due to your ability to control them. It directly affect how good a weapon is. With reduced recoil you allow controller players to build the weapons differently and you allow them to prioritize different weapons. This is really bad for the balance, and it is giving the controller players far more advantage then many realizes. This will be even worse in the BR mode where you more often fight with different weapons without preferred attachments to reduce the recoil.
Changing the recoil is just not the way to go to balance the different inputs in my opinion. - AchillezBF2 months agoNew Veteran

I might be wrong, but I don't think this is true. You are describing the default behavior? Console players will by default be prioritized with other console players. If you turn off cross-play you are put in a different matchmaking queue.
I think this is how "cross-play: off" should work for all platforms though! Make it a preference to the matchmaking system rather than splitting the player base, to ensure the health of the game in the long run. - Alethes2 months agoSeasoned Ace
I see your point re. why cross-play. Thanks for taking the time to explain it.
I fully agree with the rest. Input-based matchmaking (IBMM) seems to be the way forward.

Come on Dice, you got one chance to get this right. Not wait until it's too late. Aim assist is killin the pc crowd. It's just too powerful. If you don't aim correctly with a mouse you miss, not so much with controller. They just don't have to be as accurate as mouse players. I think that takes the fun out of the game knowing this about unfair advantage. And I get it, console players without aim assist wouldn't hit the broad side of a barn. But there never has been a middle ground. It just doesn't work well. And at the end of the day it's about having fun. Not having some guy getting shot in the back do a 180 and kill you just by holding down the trigger. Ps.... can we please for the love of everything decent get dedicated servers back.

They tried 4 years to balance it in 2042. They cant do that because its like balancing a motorboat and a sport car.

So how would you ballance one input when recoil is controlled by a thumb with other that is controlled by a whole hand?
Controller is meant to be played while being relaxed so it needs to have those nasty assists. The input are totally different. So thanks to enforced crossplay with have a relaxed people on couches playing behind a 65 inch tvs vs mnk players in "battle position", fully focused on a much smaller screen. Tell me how to balance it?

Crossplay is in the best interest for the PCs ecosystem if it was remove the PC version would be dead in matter of months due to cheating.
EA is using the consoles ecosystem to waterdown the cheating problem so you won't bump into cheaters so often if you think aim assist is strong it isn't it's more likely that person is using a soft aimbot.

Console players don't want to play with the PC ecosystem either if there was a console only option 99% of console play's would turn it off.
If you think we had an advantage don't you think we would want to play with you?

Tell me how to balance it?Many mouse and keyboard players are not able to properly control the recoil in BF6, however any controller player can easily control it with the reduced recoil. I tested both inputs during the beta. I could clearly feel the difference and the recoil was way easier to handle on a controller. The recoil is in the game for a reason. Now you are basically removing a game mechanic for controller players.. which is obviously not good for the game, and especially not good for the balance of inputs.
No, a controller is meant to be played with. What input you are using does not determine how sweaty or relaxed you are as a player. There are plenty of sweaty and good controller players, and plenty of relaxed and casual mnk players. Regardless you can not balance the inputs based on how relaxed or sweaty the players are. You have to balance the inputs based on its potential.
I agree mouse and keyboard is easier for a completely new player to use, but it is much harder to master.. because controller players has aim assist.Luke88gw wrote:

The current aim-assist system in BF6 with the same amount of recoil for both inputs would come a long way. The aim-assist can be very slightly adjusted one or the other way when we get more in game data after the release, but the recoil should remain the same for both inputs.

If the Aim Assist has no recoil then I will be ticked off. Thats why I wanted to turn crossplay off on PC. In 2042 its insane. I dont want to play with people who have legal aim bots.
But if they did nerf aim assist some and they have the same recoil as us, then I wont complain.
