New anticheat stops Disabled players from playing BF1-BF6

I have been a Battlefield fan since Battlefield 3, Putting hundreds upon hundreds of hours into each game since. All have worked perfectly fine with no issues at all with accessibility software.

The new anticheat update has completely stopped my, and some disabled people's ability from using their accessibility software, and from playing every game from Battlefield 1 on. Meaning, this change doesn't mean that just BF6 is using this new update that stops accessibility software, but rather, now every previous Battlefield since Battlefield 1, that worked perfectly over the past years, are now unplayable.

I am a quadriplegic and have no finger movement at all. So I use a couple different pieces of adaptive software to bind a flightstick's(Logitech Extreme 3D Pro) analog joystick to the binary WASD keys for movement(JoyToKey), as well as software to allow me to use voice commands to hit the other keyboard keys I otherwise cannot reach(Voice Attack).

From my testing I found that JoyToKey Is the culprit here. It causes the "VirtualController" issue. Voice Attack remains functional.

Please Battlefield, Don't stop myself as well as other disabled players from using software that enables us to be able to play a game we otherwise wouldn't be able to play. And in addition, doing that to the previous 3 games as well. Especially with a software like JoyToKey. Where anyone that has attempted to bind analog inputs to binary outputs knows, It provides no competitive edge, just accessibility for those with limited movement.

I've provided some screenshots of the accessibility devices that I use, as well as the screens I get from each battlefield showing that "VirtualController" is not allowed to be running at the same time as the game.

Thank you for Sending your time to read this.

Yeah, accessibility should not be a loophole for cheating. It should be under special agreement.  Im a wheelchair user top and had to prove my disabilities to get some benefits. But of course he shouldnt prove anything to us but to EA.

  • While I do understand why the anti-cheat blocks things like JoyToKey, reWASD, DS4windows and so on, since people were using them to gain an unfair advantage, I do think that there needs to be a way for someone with a legitimate need to use them (as is the case here) to be able to access them.

It feels unfair that someone with a disability can't play a game series that they enjoy because of software being restricted, and I hope that something can be done.

EA has smart guys that could make such software quickly. Especially that from what I saw those mentioned apps are used to cheat. If Kenny just needs to rebind WSAD to flightick and use voice commands to activate actions... I have nothing against because it doesnt give him adnvatage over people with full control in hands. The only problem are the apps themselves that can be used in a cheating manner.

So a temporary solution could be special agreements to use it on specific PCs.

  • CrippledKenny May I ask how do you aim? With your xbox adaptive controller?  Never thought about moving to Xbox or Playstation? Maybe it would easier for your to play. I saw people using combination of default controller and adaptive controller to play. Myself I'm a wheelchair user too but luckly I dont need  any additional software and hardware so not sure if it would be a good solution for you.

Yes, some kind of registration for specific PCs would be a good solution in the short term.

Really, it's such a shame that the minority of players who have been using these tools to cheat have affected people who genuinely need to use them so they can enjoy gaming.

here the problem goes beyond all lines, it is not the fact that someone has disabilities the fact is that they will do something that exceeds the level of those who do not have a physical problem and so this creates a problem. The programs that help must not exceed otherwise you will put people who play legitimately in difficulty or create conditions that people will start to cheat. it's a virus allow one person to have superior help and everyone will automatically feel like they have to catch up or use the excuse to ruin the customers experience.
