Probably because you can kill somebody with a single shot over a large distance (and it even doesn't need to be a headshot, with some rifles and distances), so it provides a kind of warning. You cannot do that with DMRs. Is it consistent? No. Does it makes sense for the gameplay? Yes, sort of.
It makes zero sense and it makes all the low power optics obsolete.
Why ever equip a lower power optic instead of a high power one for easier target acquisition?
This nonsense makes any effort to hit targets with low power optics unrewarding.
Snipers are overated when the other guns can bullet hose someone well into the early 3 digit distances and it does not matter to them if they miss the first shot. The sniper is only strong at ranges so great that you can hardly see them and they can also hardly see you without a high power optic. They are not strong, they are just super frustrating to die to.
How is it different to die in one shot and dying to milliseconds from a full auto burst that takes a lot less careful aim?
In that case whenever a full auto weapon user is close, I should be hearing the terminator 2 theme as a warning.
Btw I hear that there is a DMR that can 2 shot at any distance... and that comes without glint.

As you said - sniper rifles are strong at ranges, so using higher magnification scopes use makes sense, but I also seen people with different scopes (low magnification) using the rifles at shorter ranges and with a great success (because within a sweet spot range, it's a kill with a single body hit). I don't know how you, but I (as a target) appreciate having a glint for 150+m distant snipers that can kill me with an unrevivable headshot I would otherwise have no idea about. I guess it's an intended trade off for them, so they won't sit back without any risks, sniping people basically without any consequences or use the rifle as a better shotgun that often.
Yes, SVK is two shot, but with 150 rpm and in some situations it's great (and in others it's not). But still not a single-shot-kill weapon.

The problem is at all those distances bellow 150m
The glint is supposed to make them visible because they are too far and small. When I am up close and trying to hide like 50m away with a low power optic, I do not appreciate having an even greater disadvantage than being outgunned at this range by also broadcasting my location.I hate distant camping snipers as much as anyone, but I would appreciate some consideration for people up close.
I do not know where you found all those sweet spot users who had great success but I have not seen them myself.
The only people who have great success atm at those with SMG bullet hosesThe sweetspots are very unreliable and I only go for headshots.
