Not really, played every single one since 1942, they also had vastly slower game pace which helps.
Just look at Aerodrome on BFV as an example, massive center base, 90% of enemies enter from one side, bar a few flankers that made the long and difficult journey around. There are many examples where flags have limited points of entry, or a difficult flank route.
In general bigger map size makes enemy pathing more predictable
Also a lot less clutter in older maps, see enemies sooner and can plan accordingly.
