This solution is incredibly poorly thought out and does not use basic logic to understand the true problem. This type of lack of critical thinking is dangerous. The solution does not account for vehicles. Vehicles should be allowed whatever form of input you would like to use, and on top of that, for m&k lobbies, controllers should work just fine, but not have ANY aim assist.
The important thing that you are FAILING to comprehend is that this solution WILL SPLIT THE ALREADY SPLIT BASE IN 2.
OPEN weapons IBMM
CLOSED weapons IBMM
OPEN weapons no IBMM
CLOSED weapons no IBMM
Why push this when instead you can push for the best solution, like gyro aim and letting controller players suffer for their poor choices..
Personally I think that mojoe147 has already given you the right answer, and honestly I don’t believe there’s anything more to add.
Moreover the logic behind "split player base" can be discussed and can be correlated in other ways with different topics, like for instance:
- IBMM on/off -- splits the player base
- Crossplay on/off -- splits the player base
- game modes (Conquest, Breakthrough, etc.) -- splits the player base
- the newly introduced Battle Royale as standalone f2p -- splits the player base
so what's really the point of it? I honestly don't see any reason why "split player base" is (or could be) a problem, it always been like that in a way or another in every Battlefield and the only way to solve this should be not giving any option to the users/players and having only one multiplayer mode, so in this case none will be split. But now I'm going off-topic with this.
Going back to an on-topic, you suggested:
No, the best solution is to just remove the aim assist and let controller users suffer for their choices, however if you insist on a system like this here is a better one.
Before the match, you make a choice. Mouse, or controller.
If you choose controller, mouse input will be removed for everything except areal vehicles. Your controller input will get aim assist and you will match only with that input.
If you choose Mouse, you can still use controller, but there will be ZERO aim assist. You will not match with any controller input people.
that could be a solution, but: I think applying that will require a lot of work, maybe even too much; I'm not a dev so I don't really know it, but as external I would say it's easier to implement a "simple" IBMM toggle option rather than create a sort of filter before and during the match with aim assist cancellation, use of controller allowed for vehicles only if you play with M&K input since the beginning of the match, and so on.
And still as an external I would also say that this kind of filter could potentially create bugs/glitches and maybe also a way to bypass it in somehow so to nullify the input restriction.
