The state of BF6 (and the **bleep**can called EA)
First off: I am not a Battlefield fan or avid player and have not been for a long time. The last time I really played a Battlefield game was Bad Company 2.
Is BF6 better than whatever garbage they have released in the past X iterations? Probably. Is it good though? A "return to form"? That's a big no. Unless the form is unfinished, unpolished, unbalanced slop where the only thing only thing working properly is the monetization. But that would not be a return to anything, that has been the current state for the past couple years.
So much for the state of EA.
Bots
I usually warm up with Casual Breakthrough. Couldn't help but notice that bots will ignore any form of vision impairment. Also, they strangely switch between 100% laser aimbot and bumbling idiot that doesn't know where the trigger is.
Weapons
There is very little balancing. Generally, everything that fires fast and has little recoil is very popular in each weapon section (and the most rewarding to play really). Which is why the Kord 6P67 is probably the most played AR. Feels more like **bleep** COD games than Battlefield.
Shotguns
TL;DR shotguns are useless.
Shotguns have no real place in the game. They are too short ranged, unreliable, slow, unprecise, uncontrollable and have no versatility. A few of these are fine, shotguns shouldn't be the ultimate weapon obviously, but all at once is bad. There is no setting where there are not way more useful alternatives. The only setting it shines is in a small room/area, vs enemies coming one at a time, maybe 2 at once maximum. As soon as >2 people are coming in, literally any other weapon type is better.
The main problem is that, while they are supposed to be powerful in close range, they are not powerful enough. Its only strength lies in the fast kill time in CQ. However, probably thanks to an upcoming partnership with Stake or something, they made shotguns pure gambling. They are so unreliable that you could perform a colonoscopy with the shotgun barrel as the endoscope, then give the enemy a lead enema and still have only a 50/50 chance to kill them in one shot. At around 5 meters, you might need 1-2 shots, or 6.
The slug reduces the damage of both the M87A1 and M1014 to exactly 100 despite a 19 damage point base damage difference, making up for it with a negligible 7 points of flat precision (assuming it gives flat).
- M87A1: 134 > 100 (decrease of 34 flat or 25.37% or roughly 1/4), +29 precision (+290%)
- M1014: 115 > 100 (decrease of 15 or 13.04% or very roughly 1/8), +21 precision (+210%)
- DB-12: 80 > 75 (decrease of 5 flat or 6.25% or exactly 1/16), +19 (+371%) precision
- 18.5KS-K: 80 > 75 (decrease of 5 flat or 6.25% or exactly 1/16), +23 (+277%) precision
What the hell is this, do they use a random number generator for this stuff?
Attachment management
Personally, I hate it. I understand why it is made the way it is made, to give more to grind and make progression more "rewarding" while also keeping some semblance of balance between lvl 1100 players and level 1 players, but it is done so insanely badly in my opinion.
Nothing makes any sense. Why are grips on shotguns the same attachment cost as every other weapon when they are % bonuses, not flat (resulting in a maximum bonus by themselves of about 8 to 17, precision and control combined)? Why does the biggest magazine mod take between 40 and 60 for so many weapons? 27 instead of 17 shots from the KV9? 45 points. SL9 60 instead of 30 shots? 55 points. M123K from 100 to 200 shot? 50 points. RPKM from 40 to 75 shots? 50. And so on and so forth. It doesn't seize to amaze me how **bleep** ridiculous this system is.
Utility
Utility is kind of split. Most things work fine and reliably, but some things are real bad. Supply pouches often glitch out. Incendiary grenades can either deal 5 damage or 100 seemingly at random. They can also light you on fire through walls. The incendiary shotgun and grenade launcher are beyond useless.
Gripes
- Holding down G sometimes spams your grenades instead of holding onto it, ready to throw
- Defib being able to revive 500 men in under 5 seconds
- The amount of monetization for a 70$ game is shocking
- It is shockingly unpolished
- Leveling up some weapons takes too long (so they can sell more boosts probably)
- The respawn beacon should be unusable if enemies are too close imo
- You always get out of the tank in the worst possible location instead of where the exit would be
- There is very little actual variety in the weapons. SMG, AR, Carbine and LMG are all somewhat similar
- Smokes are not very useful or there are a lot of players with external assistance that can see right through them
- Short spikes in ping due to home network will cause a ~5 minute "disconnect" where you can run around but are sent back to your last location
Bugs
Bugs that I have encountered multiple times in my relatively short time playing this game:
- Tanks (and rpg) can sometimes kill you through tanks (i.e. you are engineer and repairing the tank from the back, enemy tank shoots the front, you can die despite the tank staying intact)
- They can also kill you sometimes through tank wreckages
- fences sometimes seem to act as solid barriers when trying to shoot through
- people can sometimes spawn on players that died or are mid combat
- shooting while going into scoped on the rpg sometimes makes the shot go way off target to the left
- Sometimes there is a random delay between the weapon ready animation finishing and being able to actually shoot
- Fire goes through walls
- Equipment like supply bag/pouch might glitch through buildings, floor and environement
- Respawn menu goes super laggy sometimes
- Respawn location selector might freeze on a location until respawn
- not being able to (re)spawn at all
- Hitmarkers and damage/kill info aren't shown sometimes, usually for short time/until next respawn
- rpg shots sometimes go straight through tanks/vehicles without hitting
I'm probably still missing a bunch, but I think that's more than enough to be absolutely pissed at the poor excuse of a Battlefield game you get for 70$ nowadays...
