Too Fast
This feels much more like Call of Duty than Battlefield. I'm sure some people like that, but I don't. If I wanted that, I would play Call of Duty. The movement speed isn't actually the problem. I think the problem lies with the following:
- The maps are too small for the player count. It's fine for there to be a mix, but it seems that all of the maps are very small relative to player count in the beta. This means people spawning on top of each other, bunching up, and just general chaos.
- Suppression absolutely must come back. It's basically non-existent right now. The recon situation is dire in many maps. Just a dozen shiny scopes killing people at spawn. This is made worse because:
- Unless you're playing the class locked weapons mode, recon can have RPGs now! This is an absolutely bonkers decision. If a recon can't snipe you, they'll just blow up your cover. In general, Battlefield needs weapons locked behind classes. I am very disappointed that only conquest has this option.
- Passive healing speed provides full health in eight seconds. This means players just need to duck down for a few seconds and they're fully healed. This makes people reckless and takes a lot of the strategy and teamwork out of the game. It's basically a hero shooter now. It also means the supply bags are much less useful.
- The auto spotting system also needs a big nerf and preferably removal. It's like a cheat code, putting a red dot above every enemy in my line of site, even behind cover.
I think the game has good bones, but I'm worried that these decisions above were done intentionally to attract a different audience. If so, I'm concerned this is how the developers want the game to be, and if so, they're not going to change it. If that's the case, I'm out, and so are most of the other Battlefield fans I know. Maybe DICE succeeds in becoming the next COD. I don't know. All I know is I want another Battlefield game and this isn't it - yet.
