Weapon attachments unlocking, Can the developer please answer me?

Do game developers never play the games they create?

I don't know if they realize how hard it is to upgrade a weapon to unlock all attachments in Battlefield 6.

This afternoon I spent hours grinding in the portal, solely to unlock my weapon attachments as quickly as possible. Over three hours of gameplay, I averaged over 300 kills and 15K+ weapon experience per match. Yet after all that time, my weapon only leveled up from level 5 to 29. So I analyzed the settlement data from the last few matches.

In the portal, each BOT kill yields slightly over 50 weapon experience points. To level a weapon from 0 to 40 and unlock all attachments, you'd need to continuously kill approximately 3,000 bots. In my test, the weapon experience points gained by directly killing the player are twice that of the bot, which can reach 100 points. But this still means you need to kill other players more than 1500 times to unlock all the attachments of the weapon. Therefore, you'll need to spend a day or even several days to fully unlock a weapon. This is just ridiculous.

Currently, BF6 has more than 40 weapons, which is a disaster for some game achievement collectors. By comparison, in BF2042 you only need to kill 360 bots to unlock all the attachments for a weapon, and achieving this in the portal might only take ten minutes.

Another thing that almost ruins the entire gaming experience is that many weapons now require completing pre-mission challenges before they can be unlocked and used. Did the game developers actually attempt to complete these challenges themselves during internal testing?

You get out what you put in I guess, there's a reason col 100 on bf3 was nicknamed the poop bucket.

  • Its a joke how long this stuff takes. I have other things to do, play other games, work, etc. I dont expect an instant unlock but playing 4-5h with 1 gun? Yea I expect to be max level.

Not to mention the POS challenges. Its a shooter. If I want a grind Ill play some JRPG or Gacha game

I think you're missing the point. The core gameplay of this game is about completing mission objectives, like capturing more points than the enemy or continuously breaching/defending objectives, not spending a lot of time upgrading weapons and unlocking attachments. Acquiring all weapon attachments should be challenging and time-consuming, but it shouldn't be that long.

Setting such high unlock requirements for weapons will only have one effect: discouraging players from trying different weapons. Everyone in the game will have the same weapon, and the strongest weapon will become the optimal or sole solution. Because trying new weapons/attachments is so expensive, you'll need to spend dozens of hours unlocking attachments for each one, and most people won't be able to devote that much time to every weapon.

  • Update:
The community update released today states that the XP required to upgrade weapon attachments for the first 20 attachment ranks will be reduced.

However, if you take a quick look at your most commonly used weapons, you'll find that most useful/better attachments are after level 25, so I think the overall experience requirement should be reduced, not just in the first 20 ranks. Or the list of weapon attachments should be adjusted to put more useful attachments in the first 20 levels.

  • I really can't comprehend why anyone would defend this unless they are very emotionally invested in the game being perfect and amazing and beyond criticism for some reason. 50 hours to unlock the 10x scope for a sniper, you know, the long-distance specialist? Ridiculous! It's pretty clearly just a dirty incentive to get people to buy tier-skips and xp boosts. Yeah, we are all "COD players," because we want to play the game we bought the way we want to play it. Normal people can't play videogames more than a couple of hours per week. The average casual gamer doing normal conquest / domination games literally will NEVER unlock the 10x sniper scope unless they play nothing but 1 sniper for 6 months to a year. That is 1 singular weapon too. Wtaf? Attachments are not meaningless cosmetics they vastly change the way the game plays. Idk about everyone else, but I play multiplayer FPS videogames to play them, not to unlock weapon upgrades. I like to play the game. Having what are essentially basic game functionalities locked behind 10s of hours of gameplay is a serious drag. Of course I want "instant gratification." I'm playing a video game. I am trying to HAVE FUN. I go to work in order to be rewarded for grinding. There is nothing gratifying about having to get a certain number of kills/score to play the game the way you want to. If you do actually enjoy unlocking loadout upgrades more than you enjoy playing the actual game the way that you like to play it, you should probably find some extremely grindy mmorpg to play as you would probably enjoy that far more than any FPS game.
