Exactly this egoistic nonsense mindset is the reason we need limitations. Your text mentions a lot of "I", "my" and this is a problem.
Battlefield is supposed to be a teamplay game. At least it used to be.
No one wants to take away your toy, its about limitations, not complete removal.
Tanks and vehicles in general are limited in numbers, why not sniper rifles too?
If you think you have to play sniper war along 20 others on the server at the same time, I am sure there are games out there serving your needs. BF isn't it."Protecting your team" is a lousy excuse for this, as you could do this with regular rifles too. The issue is precisely that there are so many people "protecting their team" from behind, that there are too few players actually pushing for targets.
Few people becoming the targets for lots of camping people playing shooting range. This just doesn't workI said “I” because I was explaining how I play, not because the game revolves around me. That’s not ego, that’s context. I’m almost rank 140 currently and I’ve used almost all classes equally apart from assault cause i just dont like it, so I actually know how each role works. You call it an “egoistic mindset,” but wanting to control how everyone else plays sounds a lot more ego-driven to me. Battlefield is a team game, sure, but that doesn’t mean everyone has to play the same way to be useful. Recon supports the team by spotting, flanking, and clearing threats before they reach you, and yes, I can stop them from reaching you. I’m not speaking for everyone, I’m explaining how I use the class properly. That’s still teamwork, whether you want to admit it or not.
“Protecting your team” isn’t an excuse, it’s literally part of the job. You could do it with a regular rifle, but that’s not the point because recon gear exists for a reason. The issue isn’t people “protecting from behind,” it’s players who don’t understand how that helps. You’ve probably been saved by it plenty of times and didn’t even realize. And no, limiting sniper rifles won’t fix that. Vehicles are limited to attempt map balance, not because people don’t like how they’re used. A sniper rifle isn’t a tank, it’s a gun.
I’ve played Blackwell and Mirak Valley plenty of times with every class, not just recon. In Breakthrough on Blackwell, the map’s so boxed in at the first objective that having more snipers actually helps. They’re the ones clearing out defenders from the sides while the team pushes in for the objective. It’s how the teams I get usually take it, and once you break that first objective, the match almost always ends in a win.

Battlefield isn’t a competitive game. People play to have fun, relax and do their thing, not to stress over stats or be told how to play. Not everything’s about winning, and the ones who can’t handle that are usually the same ones blaming everyone else who are just trying to enjoy the game. But hey, that’s just my take on it.
I am speechless about the dimension of your confusion. Literally all you said there is wrong.
Battlefield is all about competition. Its a First person shooter. People compete for victory in teams. That's the fun we have. Certainly not relaxation. Stats are important, That's why they are so visible. Its like sports you know?
Now its clear you don't get the picture. You are playing the wrong game my friend. - iLuckyBrad2 days agoSeasoned Traveler
Battlefield isn’t a competitive shooter. It never has been. It’s a sandbox with explosions and a hundred different ways to play. The fact that you think it’s “all about competition” just shows how little you actually get it. There’s no ranked system, no structured balance, no tournament scene. It’s designed for variety, creativity, and fun. The game works because people approach it differently some go for objectives, some support, some snipe, some just enjoy the spectacle. That mix is what makes Battlefield unique. If you want every player to move in formation and play by one set of rules, you’re the one playing the wrong game, my friend.

that answer made a lot of sense. Thank you

They won't be limited. So it's pointless to ask.

You know how EA at some point chose to remove ping from the scoreboard? It's like they deliberately wanted to hide the fact that they allowed laggers to play the game. It's just that even when you hide the statistic, people will still notice when they get shot 3 seconds after diving behind cover.
Hiding the K/D stat from the profile is quite similar. I'll still count my kills and deaths and I can easily do the math. It will influence my decisions regardless of whether I can see it somewhere. I may not know the total, but that doesn't prevent me from setting goals on a per match basis.

Whilst Battlefield may not be a Competitive game in the sense that it has no professional competitive scene, it is literally a competitive game.
The lore of the game is one army attempting to beat another.
The whole basis of every game mode is one team attempting to beat the other (or squad attempting to beat all other squads).
Every game mode has objectives, even death matches.
Battlefield has always been team/squad/objectives-based and those teams and squads while they attempt to complete objectives have always competed with others.
Yes, Battlefield has also always been somewhat of a sandbox experience. There are many ways to play.
Sure, just like in any game, you can ignore the objectives that everyone else is attempting, but when you do so you are letting that team down.
Just like in life, you can behave however you want. Behave selfishly if you want, but you are still behaving selfishly. It's not ok just because you can.

Official language from DICE/EA (Battlefield)
“Battlefield is a sandbox experience where players can use creativity and strategy to turn the tide of battle.”
“We’ve built Battlefield as a sandbox of destruction and emergent gameplay.”
“The Battlefield sandbox gives you freedom to approach combat your own way.

Battlefield isn’t a competitive shooter
OMG, Unless you are playing pure PvE, all shooters are competitive.
Did you notice that this game has a scoreboard and is presenting statistics? That BF puts you into teams opposing each other?
You clearly have no clue what you are talking about.
Battlefield has always been competitive, there have been squadleaders, teamleaders, commanders, privately organized matches, clans, clanservers. Probably all this happened before your parents allowed you gaming for the first time, sometime around last year or so.
Claiming Battlefield wasn't a competitive shooter only reveals how confused you are. The ignorance with which you are trying to defend yourself being completely lost about this series is not surprising, its a trademark of all these sniper heroes who don' get the game and are in fact completely useless to their team.
This mindset has never been around this strongly before and it has to go, just as the current dumbed down mechanics encouraging it have to go and also just like you better have to.
Maybe stop embarrassing yourself, Publicly claiming BF wouldn't be competitive is the most ridiculous thing to say in this forum. I am not even sure you are not just trolling. - iLuckyBrad9 hours agoSeasoned Traveler
Gorongor You might want to slow down a bit. Even if you play Battlefield competitively, it’s still a sandbox shooter at its core. So again, I’ll say it clearly: Battlefield isn’t a competitive shooter. I never said it couldn’t be competitive; what I said is that it’s not designed primarily as one. There’s a big difference.
EA and DICE describe Battlefield as “all-out warfare” and a multiplayer sandbox focused on scale, freedom, vehicles, destruction, and unpredictable player-driven moments, not rigid balance or ranked play.
Sure, it has stats, leaderboards, and clans. Most multiplayer games do. But that doesn’t automatically make it a “competitive shooter” in the same sense as CS2 or Valorant. Battlefield’s identity has always been about freedom, chaos, and creativity within its sandbox, not an esports framework.
So maybe stop twisting words. Battlefield can be played competitively, and people have done that for years, but that doesn’t make competition its core identity. Pretending otherwise ignores how EA and DICE themselves describe and design the series.
