Winter offensive feedback - Please never such missions again.

While on the surface it was an interesting concept, I find that it was a horrible implementation in several ways.

The Freezing mechanic:
I do not know what temperature a winter in Manhattan is like but I am sure that nobody in military winter gear would be so cold that they would be unable to operate properly and suffer damage from the cold within seconds to a few minutes. There are videos of natives of a settlement in Siberia taking shower outside at temperatures that can reach -70 degrees Celsius, so the human body is not that fragile.
Reality aside, it was a very annoying mechanic.

The lighting:
There was something really wrong with how the lighting worked on the winter map. The bloom was all over the place. Also if you dare to use the adrenaline injection that the assault has, the screen could darken so much that I could end up shooting almost blindly.

The missions:
All the above would be able to be forgiven if those missions did not exist at a means to force us to engage with this winter map and its mechanics.

>Reviving people while freezing:
Which means that the only revives that count are those that happen if you are in the state where the cold is already affecting your character in a negative way, which might mean that someone will need to stay in a freezing state on purpose in order to be ready for someone to fall over and to take the extra risk of reviving with reduced health and at the risk of the other player skipping the bleedout stage early.

>Capturing objectives while freezing:
Same issue above except you do not have to worry about the the tiny attention span of a teammates but instead on the incompetence of the enemy team to stop you.

>Kills under the effect of the adrenaline injection while freezing
The person who approved that mission, does not play the game or they only fight bots with their weapons removed.
Like I with the other freezing missions, you are already at a disadvantage when you are in a freezing state that adds weapon sway and reduces your max health.
To make things worse, like I said in the lighting section, when you take the injection, the screen becomes much darker, which in the indoor areas in this map, it can make the soldier legally blind for the duration of the effect or until they get killed (which is very likely).
All this after a lot of players hated the idea of a mission involving kills under the effects of the crappy adrenaline injection and how long it makes you unable to shoot for during the animation.

  • Yes it was horrible and the worst was they made us do things while freezing to finish assignments. It's the worst kind of thing to ask the player to play WRONG to finish assignments.

Stuff like capture objectives while freezing, revive teammates while freezing etc. SHOULD NEVER BE A THING. What is next, do headshots with a revolver while burning, while capturing objectives? This is the "JUMP THROUGH HOOP" stuff that should never be a thing. They should never force us to play something in a wrong way, only to get the rare coincidence to finish these horrible assignments.

What the assignments should do, is to make the players play objectives and nothing else. It's really that simple, the teamplay would go way up etc. but nope.

This is exactly my problem with a lot of the assignment designs
All those "X in a round/life" "kills from X range", "Kills/revives/caps at a certain state"

There are really like 4 things that we should be getting as assignments without any twists and modifiers: Raw Revives, healing, resupplying, spotting and repairing. Because these are the behaviors that ought to be encouraged instead of jumping through (like you correctly said) flaming hoops.
Objective play should also be encouraged, the weekly 10 point assignment that was about objectives, M-coms etc (and allowed you to pick your preferred mode) was a good one.

Imagine what would happen if they had weather effects or actual permanent seasons and different times of day ingame. They could ask us to do a melee kill at rain at midnight while full moon and there has to a be a hurricane in the background that you are affected by. They could come up with even more stupid annoying assignments. I shouldn't give them any ideas lol. :D

  • Of course devs don't play their own game, we already know that. All these challenges are AI designed.

While they are on holidays, they should have it under the contract to play at least 2 hours a week of their own game, maybe it would give them something to think about in their break.
