Hardcrash/Bluescreen caused by EA Anticheat after new Patch

I previously posted about this in a thread on error 95 caused by EA Javelin Anti Cheat. However, I believe my bug could be actually unrelated as I have not encountered error 95. Sorry for slight content doubling. Maybe other people also encountered my bluescreen issue and are reassured by reading this.

This morning my game had first connection issues with an unkown error. (Probably unrelated)

Then on restart and rejoin in a Nightfall match I was thrown out of the match (maybe due to inactivity or connection - there was no info) and the game crashed without an error.

I directly restarted the game and very shortly after a text appears on my screen that my pc needs to be restarted. That was around 1:30am CET.

It triggers memory retraining with a boot for like 69s. And I can find out afterwards that I had a bluescreen. Windebug points directly to eaanticheat.sys.

Start of the windebug:

"IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL (a)

An attempt was made to access a pageable (or completely invalid) address at an interrupt request level (IRQL) that is too high. This is usually caused by drivers using improper addresses.

If a kernel debugger is available get the stack backtrace."

First mention of ea anticheat follows shortly

"Debugging Details:

------------------

*** WARNING: Unable to verify timestamp for eaanticheat.sys"

It also appears in the stack trace which I ommitted here. I'm actually unsure if it would be clever to post it publicly. However, it ends with identifying the following names. (My pc is running Win11 I don't know why windebug thinks it is win10)

"SYMBOL_NAME: eaanticheat+c4e856

MODULE_NAME: eaanticheat

IMAGE_NAME: eaanticheat.sys

Bf is the only game that has ever bluescreened or hardcrashed my current pc in general. In the past it caused 2 unrelated nvidia driver tdr crashes but that's at least partially the fault of Nvidia's drivers but partially also your game's fault as it loved/sometimes still loves to throw "directX device hung" errors that seemingly very rarely make the driver hardcrash.

I run the repair routine for the anti cheat as this was suggested somewhere else but I feel that this bug is unresolved. However, it's not easy to reproduce. I played one match on Hagental afterwards without any problems.

Maybe a prior normal game crash leaves the anti cheat in a fail state that leads to illegal memory address operations causing the bluescreen?

I feel that this is related to the bluescreen that is also reported here

https://www.reddit.com/r/Battlefield6/comments/1rzexzi/crashing_with_latest_update/

Furthermore, another user on the official discord reported a bluescreen after the new patch. So, I'm not alone in this. Also, multiple people over reddit report hardcrashes and Westie experienced one in his stream. I don't know if they had similar bluescreens, but I suspect so.

I hope you can fix this very soon. It spooked me a bit and annoyed me way more. Bf6 is unfortunately on the unstable end of my gaming experiences. The performance is stellar though. Bf2042 ran so much worse and looked worse as well.

Have a nice day!

So far, I have found more mentions of blue screens (and way more of crashes) where people saw a connection to eaanticheat since the Nightfall update. I think 3-4 on your official discord server and a moderator also asked for crashdumps of three people multiple days before my crash happened.

The same moderator also asked me to make a thread here.

Does this mean EA is working on related issues? Having information on that would be cool and super nice :).

An official post to the anticheat issues or when they are fixed a hotfix post stating that would be splendid.

I also say that because I don't feel like playing with this issue present and I don't dare to play it. Which is a bummer because I paid 70€ for Bf6 and really like it..

  • Hello friend!

Many thanks for posting about this important Battlefield 6 issue.

Penguin understand this feels bit scary when PC suddenly Bluescreens while playing Battlefield 6! 😲
    That's not cool friend.

From having spent many hours at this forum and troubleshooting different problems in the Battlefield community, the BSOD caused by EAAnticheat.sys often points to 👉 a driver level issue, and fortunately not a problem with your PC hardware.

    1:Windbg points directly to EAanticheat
2:Similar cases been reported since the recent big update
3: Moderators asking for crash dumps.

All 3 observations you provided suggest that the issue is related to the recent patch and not your system, especially since Moderators been asking to collect crash dumps.  Highly likely a known problem? And if not it gonna need to become so! 😀

If the BSOD happens more often while launching the game it can likely mean that a driver uses a improper or even non accessible memory address due to:  TPM Issues, Driver conflicts and sometimes EaAnticheat refusing to accept the security certificates and driver signatures after a patch, leading to 👉 a whole bunch of Windows failures including EAanticheat.sys BSOD

Doing things like keeping drivers & BIOS up to date, disabling XMP, Windows permissions, An Ensure Read write permissions are all checked in folder properties, make sure Anti Virus isn't blocking any related processes, Disconnect any unnecessary USB devices, are things you can do to attempt minimize the frequency of the BSOD,  but in this case such steps may only delay the inevitable without a Javelin EaAnticheat patch from the developers.

Penguin wouldn't be afraid of playing the game even if getting this BSOD especially if you have a System restore ready and knowing this is explicitly from Javelin software needing a Stability patch,  this is EaAnticheat.sys related and your PC will at least not go boom from this! 😀

Penguin also experiencing EaAnticheat.sys BSOD sometimes over here as well, what helped reduce the frequency of the BSOD was to disable CPU-C states in BIOS and make sure Windows is always set to High Performance mode while gaming, the BSOD is seen maybe once ever 4 days. (Not a solution, but a reduction)

Question: Does the BSOD happen more often while launching the game or mostly just a at complete random times mid-game?
And how often do you believe the BSOD might be kicking in?

Understanding the timing of the BSOD can be valuable information.

    Big Fan Of Battlefield 6
    Many thanks!
    Penguin

  • Hi there,

Sorry to hear that you’re experiencing crashes and blue screens.

Could you please share more details about what’s happening?

It would be very helpful if you could provide:

    • A DxDiag report
    • Files from C:\Windows\Minidumps
    • Files from C:\Users\[your name]\Documents\Battlefield 6\CrashDumps

In the meantime, you may also want to try updating Windows and your GPU drivers, as well as reinstalling or repairing the Visual C++ Redistributables, as these can sometimes help with troubleshooting.

    Thank you for your patience.

Thank you very much for responding. I collected the crashdump of that bluescreen and the crashdump(s) of BF6 from the last two months (which is just one).

Should I upload the information publicly or send to you somewhere else?
I repaired the current Visual C++ Redistributables - they were fairly new anyway, but I figured that it cannot hurt.
It would be cool if I could send or upload it in a way that not everybody on the internet can read it. (I think I would feel better that way, even if the information is not really sensitive) I could send them to you on the official Bf Discord, if the forum does not allow it. (I'm a noob here :( )

Thanks Penguin for reassurance  and your nice words! :). Also thanks for your tips, even if this likely needs an ea anticheat patch (and probably a bf6 patch but one is coming I read!)

Tbh, I want to keep my BIOS version untouched. It is otherwise very stable and I have no reason to upgrade. I have activated EXPO so that my ram runs on the speed it was meant to and a bit PRIME95 torture assured that it should be stable. I should probably disconnect my webcam when playing BF6 though... that's a veeery good point. In addition, I deactivated the steam overlay as I read that Bf6 sometimes comes into conflict with overlays, which I already experienced in the past as well.

Interesting and surprising that it also happens to you :/. It happened only once so far, so I was maybe a bit alarmist, it happened after the game crashed once without error and when I restarted the game. It was able to start but hard crashed / blue screened very shortly after loading into the main menu.

Thank you for being willing to share the information. You’re welcome to send it to me via a direct message on the forum.

  • I have same problem, played around 1 hours and got BSOD. It started after 1.2.2.0 update, but after 1.2.2.5 update thought resolved. Now it happened again.

That's unfortunate. Seemingly there was another small patch on 1st of April. I bet this will be resolved soon :/ Did the BSOD have the same cause/listed module in WinDbg?
