My PC restarts during the match

I was really looking forward to BF6 and during the beta, I was very happy that the game was running without any issues. I pre-ordered it and enjoyed the first 25-35 hours of gameplay, but then problems started. During a match, my PC would suddenly reboot. I don't mean I was kicked from the game; the entire computer would completely restart, all the way to the motherboard manufacturer's welcome screen.

I tried everything - completely removing drivers with DDU, installing new ones, clearing the shader cache, optimizing power settings for maximum performance, updating the BIOS, disabling the XMP profile, trying a different PSU - the result was always the same: I can't play comfortably.

And the longer it went on, the worse the game's behavior became. Before, I might crash in the first match, but then I could play peacefully for 2-3 hours until the next crash. Now, I can't even finish a single match in the Escalation mode. I'm really glad that EA managed to make a good Battlefield that I liked, but as a QA Engineer, I don't understand how they could let such a critical bug slip through. Judging by this forum and Reddit, the problem isn't isolated and affects not just one, ten, or even a hundred people. I'd be happy to hear your suggested solutions, but as I understand it, there's no guaranteed fix-it's completely random.

I hope that EA and the Battlefield Studios team are aware of this issue and are actively looking for ways to resolve it right now.

The PC is shutting down in the middle of a game? That's usually a hardware stability issue.

Try these steps one at a time so you know which one fixes the hardware crashes.

    1. Update the motherboard BIOS firmware to the latest version.
    2. Disable XMP/EXPO memory overclocking in motherboard BIOS.
    3. Downclock GPU core and VRAM frequency by 200MHz.
    4. Disable both PBO & CPB in motherboard BIOS if you have an AMD CPU. Disable Turbo Boost for Intel CPU.

If PC is still shutting down and crashing I'd check for memory errors with HCI MemTest.

I had the same issue as you and got it fixed.

My AMD RX 7900XT spiked to 600W and after that it would shut down / restart.

Lowering the power limit fixed my issue.

  • I was doing an automatic overclock in MSI Afterburner and had +200 MHz on the VRAM. I removed this overclock (only VRAM) and it seems the game has stabilized. It's too early to draw conclusions; I'll report back here with the results in 1-2 weeks, once I've gathered enough observations.

  • So, the PC rebooting in the middle of a match hasn't gone away. I tried disabling PBO and CPB, I lowered the GPU power limit to 90%, but the crashes continue.

I ran logging in GPU-Z and HwInfo; according to the logs, there are no anomalous spikes in power consumption or voltage, the system is operating within standard limits. So the issue is still relevant and without a guaranteed solution.

Did you try without frame gen?

Also try with -dx11 or -d3d11 launch options and by some people fullscreen caused and issue, EXPO/XMP? BIOS update? Something must be the problem.

Did you run Event Viewer and is it reporting any problems after the restart?

  • Adding various launch parameters didn't help, and I've already tried disabling the RAM overclocking profiles—that didn't help either. The BIOS is the latest available version for the ROG STRIX B650E-I GAMING WiFi :(
