Thanks for the tips re: check if CPU is thermal throttling, and also explaining why TN exists. essentially, no matter of settings changes can reliably get this game above 60 fps on my CPU, despite my GPU being able to pump out 90-120-180+ depending on quality settings.
That explains why capping FPS around 50 or 55 helps, but it is incredibly disappointing that it essentially forces a lot of people to buy a new system for 1 game due to the way BF has developed their game. I think the only reason this is a big issue is because minimum requirements historically means "you could try running the game with lower specs, but it will run at a low framerate" whereas for BF6 it means "if your CPU is just above, or too close to minimum specs, your experience will be severely degraded to the point where you probably won't enjoy this game despite getting 120+ fps". I think DICE has a different expectation of "minimum specs" or they just didn't do thorough testing.
Pretty rough pill to swallow when you have to spend AUD$800 (most people would be stuck on an old socket, so at minimum, a new board, RAM, CPU & cooler) all just to get 1 game to run but all the other games play nicely... Definitely questionable development, but when the game has launched as successfully as it has, this type of feedback/issue is just never going to be heard or have any real impact on the dev team. Maybe a bit of a depressing take, but that's how I see it.
My specs
CPU: Intel i5-9600K (tried non-OC and OC)
GPU: 5060 Ti 16GB
RAM: 3000MHz 2x8GB, XMP enabled, clocked at 3000MHz
condabsy does HWiNFO System Summery say the RAM is in dual channel mode?
Unfortunately the i5-9600K doesn't have hyperthreading which gives around a 25% boost to CPU performance.
Usually I don't recommend using a custom user.cfg file for Battlefield, but for 6 core / 6 thread CPU I would give it a try.
Create a new document file in notepad.exe and save the file as user.cfg . Copy paste the text below into the user.cfg .
Thread.MaxProcessorCount 6
Put the user.cfg file in the same folder as BF6.exe .
BF6.exe is usually located in these folders.
Steam C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Battlefield 6\
EA App C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\EA Desktop\Battlefield 6\
Try adjusting Thread.MaxProcessorCount to 6, 7, and 8. Restart the game between each retry.
You can verify the user.cfg is changing the CPU core count by adding this text to the user.cfg. It will display a core count information bar at the top of the screen.
Render.DrawScreenInfo 1
