Battlefiled 1 completely freezes my laptop after 10-15 seconds on the main menu

When I loaded up Battlefield 1, everything was working fine until about 10-15 seconds passed on the main menu. All of a sudden, my game stops working and completely freezes my laptop ( Like it was blue-screened but refused to resolve the issue and restart). I had to unscrew my laptop and disconnect the battery in order to resolve the issue. This happened twice as I thought it might have been an issue with my laptop. It has only doing this with Battlefield 1 and not any other game. I was able to play on May 2nd, without any issues, but as of today (May 3rd) it just freezes my entire laptop. I have never had any issues with freezing in the past with Battlefield 1 and I have over 300 hours on Battlefield 1. I've tried verifying the files on steam as well, but it said there were no issues.

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the anticheat, repaired the folder, and updated the anticheat and it still freezes my laptop. I tried disabling my antivirus and allowed battlefield 1 through my firewall but that didn't help.

I tried looking for any windows or driver updates from May 2nd to May 3rd (May 3rd being the day this all started) and nothing was installed or updated.

I have no idea where I could find error codes for the anticheat besides the window event viewer (which showed nothing).

I don't own any other battlefield games so I don't know if its the anticheat or just battlefield 1.

I've pretty much run out of ideas that could fix this issue. If you have any other ideas, I'll try them tomorrow.

I'm trying to imagine what could cause the laptop to suddenly start freezing after never having any issues with 300 hours of gameplay.

Perhaps there was a Windows update which updated the GPU driver or some other hardware driver? Although you said Battlefield is the only game affected so that seems unlikely.

Another possibility is there was an EA anticheat update for Battlefield which might be causing the issue. That would make more sense because it would only affect Battlefield. I don't know how to test this hypothesis.

Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling EA anticheat?

There doesn't seem to be any events that pop up for battlefield 1 or EA's anticheat error codes. I don't know where else I could look for errors. I've tried everything that I could think of. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the game, updating my drivers, updating windows, updating the anticheat, and switching to windowed mode hoping it would at least stop it from freezing but it still completely freezes my laptop.

Regarding my power button, my laptop is weird and doesn't automatically shut down while pressing the power button. I don't know why, its like that ever since I've had it. Usually ctrl + alt + delete works to shut it down that but even that wouldn't shut my laptop down after it froze.

  • Are there any Battlefield 1 or EA anticheat error codes in Windows Event Viewer?

If the laptop freezes again you should be able to turn it off by holding down the power button.
