I can play BF3 campaign, but not multiplayer

I've been away from the game for a handful of years, but ran through the campaign (with no issues) to refresh myself with the controls.  I have tried, many times, to launch multiplayer, and get the same error message.  It says it can't login to EA Online...but I'm already logged in to my EA account.  I haven't put BF4 back on this computer since I'm betting it will have the same problem.  I'm not some guy that wants to be a "super-gamer".  I just use it to keep my brain sharp.

    Did that.  Same result.  It said it couldn't login to EA Online.  If I try it from the Battlelog, it says something about needing to patch it.

    The issue is related to Battlelog, launch the game from the EA app. Do not use Battlelog.

    If I knew what patch it wanted, I would have already done that.

    I've done that.  Going that route gives me the message that it "can't login to EA Online (1)".

    I thought that it might be wanting me to install PunkBuster, so I did that.  But that didn't change anything.
