College Football 25 Causing PS5 To Overheat

Anytime I try to play an actual game, my PS5 start to give overheat warnings and then eventually shuts itself off.

I can navigate menus and sim Dynasty mode with no issues, but once I go into a game this happens every time.

This has never happened before, and I even made sure to clean it up real nice and still didn't fix the issue.

Is anyone else having this problem? I am extremely frustrated that I spent $100 on a game that I can't fully play. This has to be an issue with the game and I am at a loss for what to do here.

@shyguy-carl Same, I've done all of the steps recommended multiple times, can sometimes get through a game (rare) but during the game crazy graphic glitches appear throughout.

The only thing I can think of is completely getting rid of the game from the system, not just deleting it but deleting it and having it removed from the game library on the system essentially wiping any memory from our profiles from the game, then somehow buying the game again from scratch (which we should get for free)
  • Alright,

Checked all updates, everything was already up to date. I didn't have any issues with my connections either. All USB slots were cleared.

The issue of the PS5 getting too hot and shutting down still remains when trying to play a game.

I stopped trying to play and just continued to sim a dynasty which causes no issues, again its only when trying to actually play the game.

@Seve1718 Also having this issue with ps5 get weird bright green lights and giant white boxes popping up. PS5 overheats
  • I will check out the software update this evening, but im pretty sure its up to date as it automatically does this. I haven't had any issues connecting to the servers.

    • Do you get an error codes or error messages? The only error message that pops up is a temperature warning from the actual PS5 console saying its too hot and to wait for it to cool down. If I ignore it, the system eventually just beeps and then shuts itself off shortly after the pop up. I have not gotten any errors related to the actual game itself. I want to reiterate that this only happens when playing an actual game. Launching the game, navigating menus, and even simming only in Dynasty mode does not cause this to happen. I have also played my other games to make sure its not just a PS5 issue and they all play fine as normal with no overheating.
    • If possible, share a Screenshot or Clip of any errors... See above.

    Hi @shyguy-carl

    Thanks for the additional information!

Can we also verify if the following changes this at all?

    1. Make sure you have the latest software update.
    2. Troubleshoot your connection to EA games
    3. Unplug any devices attached to the USB slot.
    4. Entering Safe Mode and Rebuild your PS database

If this keeps up when starting a game let us know the following,

    • EA ID (PSN ID/Gamertag):
    • Do you get an error codes or error messages?
    • If possible, share a Screenshot or Clip of any errors...

    Cheers!

    Hi @Seve1718

To confirm are you getting a message about your Xbox overheating or does it crash?

If the console is not overheating, this would be a separate issue and you will want to share your information in our thread here

    Thanks!

  • @EA_Illium

I have already checked the console for dust build up, even opened it up and cleaned off the fan/removed any dust.

I am playing on a PS5 Digital Console, internal storage.

Yesterday evening, I played a different game I own with no issues. I then went back to College Football 25 and I was able to play for approx. 3 hours with no issues because I was only simming a dynasty. If I try to actually play a game, it will cause the system to overheat. Seems to be an isolated issue to only when playing a game.
  • Same issue for me playing on Xbox Series X.  Confirmed that I also cleaned out the console and fan from dust... it’s a fairly new Xbox anyway.

The game crashes usually in the 4th quarter on both Dynasty and Road to Glory modes after the Series X gets too hot.  Most crashes just cause the game to Quit and it goes back to the Xbox Home Screen.  Although twice it shut the entire console down and it flashed a quick Green screen before it turned off

    Hey @shyguy-carl

Thanks for reaching out to the community and letting us know what you're running into.

First, I'd recommend checking the console for dust build-up and ensuring it's in an open area.

If this continues can you confirm if your playing on the internal storage or an external SSD?
