CFB Gameplay Part 2
Zone Coverage Responsiveness: Defensive movement feels overly restricted. Even when a user-controlled defender is positioned correctly in their zone, there’s little ability to make a play on the ball. Player control feels sticky and unresponsive in these moments.
- Outside Run Balance: Stretch plays and outside runs are overpowered. Users are also calling inside runs designed to hit the A-gap, but intentionally bouncing them outside, where blocking unrealistically holds up and seals the edge for big gains.
- Cutback Speed Exploit: Cutting back and zig-zagging gives ball carriers an unrealistic speed boost. Changing direction should reduce momentum, not increase it. This is a major exploit players are using to leave defenders stuck in quicksand.
- Juke and Spin Move Effectiveness: Juke moves, especially when running toward the sideline and then cutting back inside, are far too powerful. With top-tier running backs, players can cover 5–7 yards on a single juke, often making two or three defenders miss simultaneously—even when those defenders are coming from different pursuit angles. This makes the game unplayable as users call stretch all day or take those designed runs and bounce them, get the flow of the defense headed to the sideline then one juke and they shake your entire secondary.
- Defensive AI Effort & Pursuit: Non-user-controlled defenders stop mid-play too often. Against better-rated teams, defenders will blockshed, take a step or two, and then stop pursuing altogether. This kills pass rush opportunities and opens up cutback lanes. Pursuit angles and consistent defensive effort need serious tuning. Defenders also need better pattern-matching for routes entering their zones.
- Tackling & Forward Progress: There are too many broken tackles, and offensive players fall forward for unrealistic extra yards after contact even when hit by multiple defenders. This happens far too often and breaks immersion and balance.
- Super User Control & Unrealistic Coverage: The AI defenders already cover too much ground in some situations, but on top of that, “super users” are back like the old days of Madden. Players user controlling linebackers with speed or safeties can cover two to three different routes in a single play, which feels completely unrealistic. That level of coverage ability shouldn’t exist, especially when combined with the AI defenders already being overpowered for your elite teams.
