ROUND-UP OF GAMING YEAR 2024. SHORT SUMMARY.

I reviewed some available statistics from GamingInvest, GooglePlay store and the Google gaming market and made a short summary. It might be interesting to read.

IAP Revenue statistics. According to the Global Mobile Gaming Industry annual report by the GamingInvest company and to the Revenue data by Sensor Tower application, Role-playing and strategy games remain the largest categories in mobile gaming in the year of 2023 and 2024. Role-playing enters the TOP3 gaming genres in mobile gaming. The role-playing game genre generated $20 billion and the strategy game genre brought in $14.8 billion in 2023. However, IAP-income from mid- and hardcore games such as role-playing games, strategy games and shooters, decreased. (The role-playing game…, 2024:9)

Battle of genres in 2025. According to Google Play Store data under “Mobile” tab the first strategy genre appears on the 15th position with the game “Total Battle: Tactical Wars” and “Whiteout Survival” takes the 17th position of the chart of top free games. By “Top Grossing” version the first strategy genre appears on the 5th and 7th positions taking over Candy Crush Saga, the representative of the Casual / Puzzle genre. The 9th position belongs to Brawl Stars, which represents multiplayer, action and shooter genres. Notably, multiplayer games are still in demand at the start of 2025.

The best games of 2024.

Winner of the Nomination “Best Multi-device Game 2024” - Clash of Clans - PEGI 7 - subgenre: strategy, build-and-battle - Platform: Android, Windows;

Winner of the nomination “Best Game 2024” - AFK Journey - PEGI 12 - subgenre: role-play, action- strategy - Platform: Android, Windows;

Winner of the nomination “Best Multiplayer” - Squad Busters - PEGI 7 - subgenre: Action, 10-player multiplayer - Platform: Android, Windows;

Summarizing, the strategy, multiplayer role-playing game genres continued to be competitive and even won some nominations in 2024. It is worth noting that this genre is rated by players in range of 4.1-4.8 average, which is considered as sufficiently high average rating.

As a result the strategy genre was one of the leaders of the gaming market during 2024. Despite the 10-20% decrease in IAP-income, the genres of team games with tactical thinking remain the leading choice of players in the video game industry.
