What the hell is wrong with this game with regard to Wifi?

I have never played a game that so often has connection problems when you play through a Wifi connection. I am sitting here literally just a few feet away from my router, and I am the only person who is connected to the network right now. And yet, I just lost the connection AGAIN for something like 10 to 15 seconds during a battle. Units at first did not react to my commands, then the "Poor Network" message appeared. This has happened so often now. It's getting on my nerves. :-(

What can be done about this? Would it perhaps be possible to connect my smartphone via cable to the router, maybe by using a USB-to-Ethernet adapter?

Seriously, I am getting tired of this bullcrap. :-(

    Hi @Mister_Crac,

I'm not involved in the tech side and I'm taking this from a conversation that Gasty had on Discord. So, apologies if it doesn't make sense. If you have questions, I can try to answer or find an answer for you.

When issues happen, it's usually because the WiFi stability is below what our games technical architecture requires. Cellular data has strict requirements for stability, which is why Poor Network seems to happen more often on WiFi. I would guess that if you could connect directly to the router, then you should have less issues. Connecting to cellular data should also lessen the stability issues.

As for why it doesn't happen as often in other games - most games are server authoritative and use client side prediction/smoothing to hide micro stalls (aka 'Poor Network').

    Hope this explanation helps.

    Hm, I see.

I will try to find a solution that works without Wifi. I would prefer not having to upgrade my monthly data plan - it seems a little silly to do that just for a video game, you see... ;-)

    Thanks for the reply.

Actually, give rivals on data a shot. IT hardly uses anything. Tell you what, give me 3 seconds, and I'll get mine out for ya. So far 7.99 MB from march 1-13th. Pretty decent in my opinion. I'd recommend giving it a shot, just keep an eye on it for the first month.
  • So, at work (not that I'm doing anything but work while there....) my connection is sweet via wifi.  I don't know if it's the service, a high quality wireless router, the booster signals around the place - I really don't know - but I never have an issue.

At Home I often turn off my wifi to play.  I don't really disconnect, but it can get laggy if I don't.

I'm not sure that helps you - other then I don't think all wifi is created equal.

You are forgetting the updates. Currently, there is no way to tell this app to only update when there is a Wifi connection, is there?

If that is true, then what can I do to improve my Wifi at home? Buy a better router? Which one would be good?

just turn on wifi for updates, and turn it off for gaming? If your phone has it, it will use it.

As for better wifi, try something in the 5ghz band. Less interference. Also minimize things using wifi, since it's kinda like a toll gate. Someone else's facebook post goes into the same line as your rivals move, so you gotta wait for that facebook post to send before your wifi will send off your rivals move giving you that dreaded "poor connection" warning.
