I've been having this same exact issue with the flashing black window that immediately crashes to desktop since the launch date and have called EA twice and done everything they suggested without any luck.
Grendel may I ask the what model/generation CPU & GPU you have? At this point, based on my own experiences, I'm suspecting that the game does not support a certain number of CPU models or certain combinations of CPUs/GPUs. I have a relatively old intel nehalem quad-core processor (i7 930) overclocked to ~4 Ghz and a GTX 670 and I think there is a possibility that they may have forgotten to support my CPU since the model is almost 5 years old. I'm probably grasping at straws here but I've literally done every single possible fix that I could think of apart from upgrading to Windows 8 and I've come to the conclusion that it either has something to do with some versions of Windows 7 or with unsupported hardware that EA is not aware of.
Sorry to read that bro. I know my processor is in the 20th percentile so i can imagine they are losing out on a lot of customers because of the quad core minimum requirements. I am not going to spend $300+ or more just to play one game when the others i play work just find.
Anyone without a quad core and cannot play just request a refund. I did.

I have an AMD card, not a Intel or nVidia one. The solution that works for Intel does not work for AMD, unfortunately. I suspect, from similar experiences in other games, that this is a configuration problem. I remember having a similar issue way back during hte first Mass Effect. The issue was that the game's default launch configuration was causing crashes and I had to download a ready made .ini file to fix it. Is that what is going on here? I don't really know.
Bioware (not just EA, but Bioware specifically) has a terrible track record with launching broken games. I fully agree with those who said that they use paying customers as beta testers on launch and patch the issues later because absolutely every game of theirs I have ever played is like this at launch. They make amazing games, but have a terrible launch record.
Thanks Grendel, you have a much newer CPU so I guess that's not likely to be the issue. I'm going to upgrade to Windows 8.1 this weekend and hope for the best. If it still doesn't work then I will have to go through the long and arduous task of trying to get a refund from greenmangaming (they have a policy of not accepting refunds on Origin keys regardless of the situation).

When I originally installed the game two days ago, I got the error "The application was unable to start correctly (0xc00007b). Clck OK to close the application." I just bought and installed a GeForce GTX 660 video card and I am still getting the same error. I uninstalled DAI and reinstalled but nothing has changed. Not sure if we have the same exact issue or not, but I tried installing on a different pc with win 7 and a newer (but less beefy?) GTX 645 and it works fine. Not sure what the problem is but this makes me think its not specific to win 7.
Based on your earlier description, I think we have the same exact issue. When I click "play" in origin or try to open the .exe directly, a black window flashes for a fraction of a second and disappears without any error messages. It took me quite a few tries but I realized that I could just make out "Dragon Age: Inquisition" on the top left of the window bar before it disappears so it does look like it's attempting to start but something's preventing it from progressing.

Yeah, it does sound like one and the same issue from whats happening. There's no way I can even make out anything on the window that crashes it happens so fast though. I personally think it has something to do with the games GPU driver detection. As in they need to add support for alot more supported GPU drivers. Just a guess though. Unfortunately, this game has turned into Technical Support Simulator 2014 for me.
