DirectX Error

So I've managed to play through the introductory bit, in the infirmary when trying to leave the game crashed with a DirectX error popup saying the following:

See a few others have ran into this, any ideas on what to try?  Reinstall the latest Nvidia driver?

    Afternoon All!

Thanks to everyone who has shared their information so far, I wanted to check with anyone getting the DirectX error.

How much extra space do you have on your install drive?

Also, if you haven't CookyCrunch27 shared a potential workaround above. I'm curious if this helped anyone else.

Unfortunately it did not worked for me :/ And i have followed your guide, updated drivers, updated bios and windows , deleted cache nothing worked. At this picture below, i had set virtual maximum memory to be 41 gb but that one did not changed to outcome.

Another option tried and failed, sadly. Still crashing at the same place, with over a terrabyte of free storage on the install drive.

I really hope there's a patch or something soon that helps. Browsing the internet looking for ways to fix this is dangerous if you're trying to avoid spoilers.

Over 600GB free on my main drive.  What I did notice is that when you change the settings you have to kind of restart the game fully, changing them willy nilly can cause some performance issues.  I had tried running with ray tracing a bit, and it was working fine in the lighthouse but as soon as I got to the forest performance dipped to the 20s and no setting change got performance back up, almost like if the same image is in view the old settings don't get purged.

So could be the settings not clearing properly when changing them (lot of Nixxes "live settings changes" give this issue for me), could be that the ray tracing is hogging memory when changing scenes (but some people are having the issue with non-ray tracing GPUs)

Been playing till the crossing/village portion without a hitch and good performance now, set the game to exclusive full screen as well, not sure if that helped, disabled DRS as it wasn't doing anything.  Will see how long this lasts

  • I too am having this error, and also not being able to see anything on creator screen. Can create my Rook but cannot proceed any further

To see your rook in CC change the lights available from  second CC screen, the nighttime one will open up the other 2. The first lighting setting never works though. I'm crashing after CC as well

  • Same issue here. A lot times it seemed to happen right after a cutscene or when doing some decision making.

  • Getting this exact error on my 4090.   Was not getting it before I updated my drivers.  Someone needs to fix the drivers.

Same on 4080 Super. Maybe we roll back the drivers? Though that might cause other issues as I think the latest NVIDIA updates were specifically for DAV

I'm on an older driver version from September so it's not the driver. 4080 Super and getting this error. Was fine on launch day, day two and it's crashing.

  • Fix this.  Only started occurring after latest drivers.   Seems pretty obvious where the problem is.

  • Things were working fine for me yesterday and now I can't even play without a crash. Please fix ya'll this is breaking my heart.

  • I had a similar problem. I'm playing on a laptop with an Intel Ultra 7 155H and integrated Arc Graphics on the lowest settings and yet it always crashes at the exact same moment in the cutscene when you reach the ritual site in the prologue. I tried allocating more memory as outlined in this thread, but to no avail. I have attached my DxDiag report.

  • having constant crash during level 6 when you have this dialogue choice.

I've tried changing drivers, rebuilding shader cash, verifying files in steam, going to an older save etc... i'm just totally stuck here.

I have ryzen 5900x, 32gb ram, 1080ti.. playing off ssd with 50gb free... blah

  • same issue is happening to me now, after finding Bellara I closed the game and now it just crashes
