Hard crashing on console [Xbox Series X]

Hard crashes are still occurring post-patch on Xbox Series X and PS5. There are multiple posts across here, Reddit, the official Bioware discord, etc all with the same issue.

Randomly the game will crash, with not easily identifiable causes. The game will sometimes just crash the game, other times it will completely crash the console itself, powering it off. It will happen in combat, when paused, out of combat; there doesn't seem to be a specific trend.

Sometimes it will be an hour between crashes, but more often than not it's in <10min increments.

No settings changes or fixes address the issue. It happens in both performance and fidelity modes.

Could we get an acknowledgement that Bioware is investigating this issue? There has been no direct acknowledgement that Bioware is aware of this issue and many people were hoping this patch would resolve it.

  • This is also happening to me (Series X). One thing I did notice--not sure if it's just an incidental correlation or if there some sort of causal relationship--but this happens much less frequently when I'm playing with my headphones on rather than using my soundbar (with Atmos). Soundbar I get about 20-30 minutes between crashes, headphones might be hours.

Also, it seems to happen if I leave the game on and my character in one place for a long time while I do something else. It will be fine as it sits there, but seems to crash within minutes of my return.

But it's just like you described: sometimes hard crashes the whole system and sometimes just crashes to Xbox home. Thought the patch was to fix this, but just had a whole system crash post patch and found this thread. Really need some bioware acknowledgement, as hard crashes really scare me. Last thing I need is a game bricking my system or creating errors that will slow my system.

    Agreed.

It makes it completely unplayable to me; it's immersion-breaking when you get ripped out of the game world repeatedly. At first I powered through it because I was having fun, but getting up repeatedly to go manually turn on my console because I can't do it via controller after it crashed everything is awful when you have to do it 15 times in an hour.

  • Thank you for acknowledging this! I actually originally bought the steam version and couldn’t get past character creation without crashes. I then decided to just screw it getting the ps5 version and NOPE. More random crashes that require a hard reset. So frustrated that this patch didn’t address it. The game is almost unplayable.
